Third Engineers Go Out Mustering Out May Seventeen

Atlanta May 6 The Third engineers are turning in all equipment except guns bayonets and belts at Fort McPherson to prepare for muster out. The regiment will be mustered out May 17 by War Department orders. The unit is a remarkable cross section with trained tradesmen from across the United States and is expected to yield about $125000 in pay upon discharge, a portion of which Atlanta may receive.

Hundred lashes for sympathizing with negro slayers in Alabama

Beasley Graham, a 24 year old Perry county man, was seized from his Hamburg area home and tied to a tree where 160 lashes with hickory switches were applied. He was left severely wounded after expressing support for the slayer of Road Overseer Mullen. A protest by one man kept him from being lynched. He was warned never to show his face again on pain of death.

Postmaster in Trouble Arrested for Embezzlement

George Lee, postmaster at Anniston Alabama, arrested by Post Office Inspector J R Rosson on a charge of embezzlement.
