The copy urges immediate use and warns against quinine, promising rapid restoration of health.
The Chronicie reports a sharp drop in demand for dressed meats as Chicago packers slash prices to revive business. Tens of thousands of workers are being laid off across major plants while cattle shipments slow and cars pile up in rail yards. The decline affects every branch of the industry, with demoralization evident in yards nationwide.
Reports from Brandenburg Kentucky say Ernest Deenly, a negro, who shot and seriously wounded Harry Dowell at Guston, was hanged by a mob at 2 30 this morning. The mob seized him from the jail after battering doors, hanged him to a tree, and fired bullets into his body as he died. Previously Deenly shot at Frank Pickeral at the Guston railroad station. Dowell was a bystander wounded in the incident.
An advertises Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription as a cure for womanly disorders and general weakness. It claims the medicine strengthens weak women, brightens eyes, and supports maternal duties, citing a testimonial from Mrs. Phebe Morris.
General Joseph Wheeler reiterates that Filipino foes were generous and not cruel. The Ogden party arrived in Tuskegee and attended events at the Alabama conference college and the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute. Governor Jelks and Atlanta’s H. M. Atkinson joined President C. A. Wickersham and others. Atkinson presented a $1,000 check for institute work as the Carnegie Library dedication preceded an outdoor barbecue.
The Ogden party of philanthropists arrives in Knoxville from Chattanooga, with a dress parade at the University of Tennessee, welcoming exercises in the Auditorium, and addresses by Dr. Charles W. Dabney and Hugh M. Tate. A tour of the university farm and Knoxville College follows, then a banquet for about 76 at the Woman's Building with Edward T. Sanford as toastmaster. The party proceeds to New York Thursday night.
A violent cyclone hit Glenrose in Somerville County injuring 40 to 50 people and killing six. Homes and businesses suffered heavy losses with about one third of downtown stores ruined and western residential area struck. The Paluxy river valley location and health resort status noted.
In Dahlonega Georgia on April 11 W T Beasley and his three sons faced trial for killing William Holman and Pierce Grindle. jurors convicted John and Ben Hensley of voluntary manslaughter and acquitted W T Beasley and Joe age 12. The two convicted men received 20 year sentences. J R Long facing separate indictment for killing Henry Clark has bond set at 2000 for fall term. Funeral services for J Sterling Morton former secretary of agriculture were held.
