Jury Still Out In Cox Case As Court Convenes

County court opened early yesterday with the Cox case drawing attention as larceny from the house. Testimony mirrored prior reports and defense led by attorney Smith argued forcefully. Death by Electric Chair at Sing Sing

Jeremiah Cotto was executed in the electric chair at Sing Sing at 10:45 AM becoming the eighth such electric execution. Four shocks over twelve seconds each produced no chest movement but signs of life appeared after the first three shocks. after the fourth there were no signs of life. Steam rose and skin scorched at electrode contact sites, doctors then declared death. Related reports note river bridge risks in Georgia and legal changes as Sumter County ends a coroner position.
