Mr Neill’s Back Down Explain Crop Estimate Failure
The March 10 Financial Chronicle notes Henry M. Neill of Neill Brothers sent a February New Orleans letter admitting his weather based method for estimating the cotton crop failed this year after two decades of accuracy. He cites a Alabama 500 acre case yielding 2 percent below last year and says he cannot find a reason. Market impacts harmed farmers and British spinners who trusted his estimate. The letter offers no timely remedy.
