A barn owned by C. M. Council on the former Wheatley place two miles from Americus burned Friday night. Firefighters arrived after the blaze had gained headway, two yearlings perished, and a second barn with 500 bushels of corn was saved by persistent water application. The burned structure was recently built by Crawford Wheatley. Insurance and replacement value are unknown.
