In Palatka Florida on March 2 eleven white men were jailed after a mob of whites stormed Putnam county jail to seize a black prisoner accused of killing F L Cross Saturday night. Shots from the mob damaged the jail injuring the sheriff's hand as the doors held. Rope found after mob retreated.
Georgia peach growers are advised on 1923 spray and dusting schedules to combat curculio and brown rot. The bulletin from the State Board of Entomology outlines early and late variety treatments, with arsenate of lead and lime-sulphur mixes, timing around petal fall, shuck shed, and pre ripening stages, plus four dusting applications using lime and arsenate blends.
Atlanta March 2 Secretary of Agriculture Wallace asks Governor Hardwick for the latest Georgia treasurer or agricultural resources report. The document will be presented at the International Agricultural association convention in Rome Italy. A U S delegate is in Rome to gather world agricultural condition data for the conference.
Johnny Klesch of Cleveland could not land effectively on Young Stribling in Macon. Stribling opened with a straight left to Klesch’s nose within ten seconds and dominated the bout by scoring repeatedly. Klesch dodged well and absorbed many of the blows with his face, leaving him exhausted in the final round.
Atlanta March 2 The Supreme Court reverses a lower court, ruling it erred in granting an injunction that restrained state tax officers from collecting occupation and other taxes on a cigar dealer. The decision suggests the state could gain about a quarter million dollars in revenue.

Weather permitting a lunar eclipse is scheduled for tonight with clear skies expected. The eclipse lasts about two hours from 8:47 to 10:35 central time, covering about 37.6 percent of the moon, and should be plainly visible to residents of Americus and vicinity.
Mrs J D Weaver of Dawson reports a platinum bar pin lost in the St Charles hotel New Orleans after leaving it on a dress fitting window ledge at a Coral street store. Saleswoman later returned the pin but it disappeared. Store employees searched but found nothing. A female worker saw the pin on Mrs Weaver at elevator entry.
Washington March 1. President Harding made public a letter declaring he is not in favor of an anthracite coal embargo to relieve the Northeastern fuel shortage. He said responsibility for any action to facilitate shipments should rest wholly with the Interstate Commerce Commission.
Atlanta March 2 Governor Thomas W Hardwick is invited as principal speaker for the Illiteracy conference of Southern states in Little Rock Ark April 10 11 He probably cannot attend but officials urge him to send a large Georgia delegation.
A barn at the Furlow Gatewood home on Lee Street was burned this afternoon. Firemen could not stop the flames and the structure was destroyed. Loss estimated at several hundred dollars. insurance amount unknown. The barn housed a car and a pet rabbit that escaped unharmed.
Albany reports the peanut growers of 25 South Georgia counties completed their organization last Thursday. A cooperative marketing drive is planned with hopes for over half the growers to join in 66 to 90 days. Judge Bingham of Louisville offered $5,000 to cover expenses and repayable as the group progresses.

Bertram Small brother of I. B. Small is seriously ill at Vidosta after a stroke of paralysis several days ago. I. B. Small rushed to his bedside after receiving news of the illness. A telegram reported the condition as very serious and feared he might die.
The February hog sale by the Community Live Stock Sales association took place in Pelham on Wednesday. A small turnout offered hogs with good grades mainly numbers one and two. Hogs sold at public cur rary, bringing 6.98 per hundred weight.
Washington March 2 The Senate Foreign Relations Committee confirmed it would not act this session on President Harding's proposal for American membership in the Court of Justice after receiving further explanation of the administration's aims from Harding and Hughes.
Atlanta March 2 Less than six cents of every dollar spent by the state highway department for road and bridge construction goes to engineering and supervision in the first 96 completed projects totaling 535 miles of highway and 25 679 feet of bridges. The $10 099 607 cost includes federal funding and breaks down into grading bridges and surfacing with permanent and durable options.
President Harding filled the foreign debt funding commission by naming three Democrats. Representative Charles R Crisp of Georgia Americus, Senator Glass of Virginia, and former Representative Olney of Massachusetts join the panel. The appointment will not interfere with their congressional duties.
In Philadelphia on March 2 an automobile traveling at high speed struck three people as they exited a trolley, hurling them fifty feet. Twenty minutes later banker Henry G. Brock was found near a blood spattered wreck. he denied involvement as police arrested him.

New Tenth District trustees include W G Clary Harlem Herbert A Williams Gibson R S Farmer Louisville Marvin G Pound Sparta Dr W H Estes Lincolnton John T West Thomson Judge Henry C Hammond Augusta and Miss Marion Colley Washington plus resigning member P H Hogan. Dr Estes fills the unexpired term and Judge Hammond fills the other vacant term.
Washington March 2 The Senate manufactures committee led by Senator Lafollette plans an investigation into recent sugar price increases. A resolution proposing the probe was introduced by Senator Brookhart.
