Atlanta June 20 Asa G Candler Atlanta capitalist filed for divorce from his wife May Little Ragin a public stenographer. They were married a year ago after a honeymoon in northern cities and he installed her in the Candler home in Druid Hills.
The Utah or Dreadnought Mississipp i crew faced a deadly blast during range practice off San Pedro California. Fifty men including officers and sailors were killed at their posts while gun crews operated the turrets. Joseph Cav ezel from Los Angeles is named as the sole survivor of those actually operating the guns.
EIGHT DIE IN HEAT WAVE AT NORTH CHICAGO. Heat wave claim eight lives in the Middle West as temperatures hit record levels. Relief promised today as regions with delayed spring endure high heat.
The Kiwanis International eighth annual convention adjourned in Denver with Victor M. Johnson of Rockford Illinois elected international president and St Paul Minnesota chosen for the 1925 convention city. J Walter C Taylor of Montreal and Ralph Ammerman of Scranton were elected vice presidents and Henry C Heinz of Atlanta was chosen treasurer.
Georgia Kiwanis delegates praise P T Anderson of Macon and Judge Walter W Douglas of Savannah for leading committee work and agricultural efforts. The convention elected Henry Heinz of Atlanta as international treasurer, with Anderson declining a vice presidential bid.
New York June 20 payment of semi annual interest on the British debt totaling slightly less than 69 million dollars was made to the U.S. treasury by J P Morgan & Co as fiscal agents for Britain. A large portion of the payment was drawn by Morgan to the Federal Reserve for treasury account and the remainder covered by treasury certificates. No Liberty bonds were included.
New representative from Marion was the favorite among Americus friends for honor. Telegrams in Americus today announced the nomination of Joe S. Burgin to represent Marion county in the Georgia legislature at the coming session to succeed the late E. H. McMichael who died recently. Burgin polled 415 votes to Crawford 238 with precinct totals showing strong Burgin support across Buena Vista Pine Knot Fort Perry Pineville Tazewell Laneville Doyle and Brantley areas Suite of results highlights Burgin's broad base and the local interest in the election.
Clearwater Florida June 20 a jury found Frank McDowell guilty with mercy recommended for the murder of his mother in St Petersburg on February 19 He remained calm yet pale as the verdict was read after just over two hours of deliberation in the courtroom McDowell showed a nervous smile during the jury’s entrance and verdict.
Baltimore dispatch reports Woodrow Wilsons last political will and testament will be read by his followers before the resolution committee as the party shapes its platform. The document is described as a document of party principle and policy and is slated to be discussed in New York.
At St Paul on June 20 the eight hour session of the national Farmer Labor Party convention nominated a provisional ticket and adopted a Communists backed platform. Duncan McDonald of Springfield Illinois was named president and William Bouck of Washington was named vice president amid protests from Minnesota farmers. The Foster Ruthenberg faction controlled the proceedings as delegates pushed through the nationalization plank with little change.
New York June 20. A subpoena issued today requires Secretary Mellon and his secretary Arthur Sixsmith to appear at the federal trial of Gaston B. Means and Elmer W. Jarnecke next Tuesday. They face charges of conspiracy to violate prohibition laws.

Clayton Peeples of Capitol Heights continues to work as a civilian motor mechanic at the state penitentiary despite a recent conviction for violating the prohibitory law. The sentence to prison followed his prior employment in the same role before his conviction.
Albany golfers defeated Americus 14 to 6 at Kinchafoonee Country Club in Albany in Nassau scoring match play. First round totals Americus 1 Albany 7. second round Americus 5 Albany 7. Americus players W C Cage and Charles Lanier struggled, while Albany’s Lilliston and Jones led the scoring with multiple wins.
General Joe Day Stewart announced the Georgia division United Confederate Veterans reunion will be held in Thomasville on October 7th and 8th. Maj. Gen. A J Twiggs confirmed the date. A large Sumter County delegation is expected to attend, with invitations extended by Thomasville civic groups and Camp W D Mitchell U C V.

ATLANTA June 20 Governor Hardee and officials from the Atlantic Coast Line and Sea board Airline railways confer with Governor Walker about efforts to block shipments of melons packed in pine straw from Florida to Georgia.
Jacksonville June 20. A telegram from Governor Hardee to Governor Walker, released today, says Florida will disregard the veterinarian order and ship the cars. He asserts the need to protect industry and calls for revocation of the order, stressing comity between states.
A corps of workmen renovates the interior of the handsome new Masonic home quarters at the intersection of Forsyth street and Cotton avenue funded by W. E. Mitchell. The updated facility will include a modern lodge room, reception hall, dining room, gym, and baths, with access via Forsyth street and a screened west porch for summer use. A house committee from Wells Chapter, DeMolay Commandery, Americus Lodge, and related bodies will manage operations, led by W. F. Smith as president and Dan Chappell as vice president.
Funeral for Max Banner, 61, well known traveling salesman and former merchant, was held Tuesday in Columbus. Banner, longtime employee of a local concern for 40 years, served as first president of the Georgia Travelers Association. The obituary notes his illness and lengthy service, with attendees among friends and colleagues.
