Senator William J. Harris announces candidacy for re election to the U S senate to succeed himself with a record of accomplishments. He cites work for farmers laborers manufacturers and merchants and notes his role on the appropriations committee and support for immigration reform and moral issues. Continued on page four.
Stephen Pace a state senator from Sumter Schley and Macon counties and Jule Felton of Montezuma announce bids for the Southwestern circuit solicitor general post. Rumor places Pace and Felton as the field’s likely entries with Z S Childers possibly withdrawing after delay. Felton currently serves as solicitor general for about five years and Pace has long practiced law in Americus.
Kiwanis members plan a peach grower relief drive by selling rubber stamps reading Eat Delicious Georgia Peaches. Merchants are asked to stamp outgoing letters and bills to boost peach sales. Vice President Heys led the luncheon as Evan Mathis traveled to the International Kiwanis convention in Denver.
Fire alarm drew firefighters to the home of C. T. Law on Forsyth street this morning. Damage was minimal and confined to a small area as the fire burned out itself. A Friday night false alarm at Seaboard shops prompted a response with no blaze found.

Kenneth Ross MacLean’s lawyers filed a general denial to Mrs MacLean’s June 7 suit accusing him of smothering their year-old daughter in a Brunswick hotel last February. The answer, on file in Pierce County Superior Court, claims the infant’s death was accidental while in the mother’s custody after MacLean left the hotel for the night. He seeks dismissal of the case.

Henderson a Greenville department store owner claims bandits robbed his shop around June 1 and drugged him into travel. He was found dazed near Hoopeston Illinois on June 14 and believes his abductors visited Florida New Orleans and St Louis while committing robberies. He has a wife and nine children and has wired for help.
Funeral services for W E Hooks Meriwether county police chief who died after noon Wednesday stepping from his automobile while pursuing a rum running car were held Thursday with Rev H O Fowler officiating Interment was in the city cemetery He was 53 and survived by his widow a daughter Miss Blanche Hooks and his mother Mrs Martha Hooks of Columbus

In Chicago on June 14 a man with five bullet wounds was hospitalized and police arrested three suspects tied to a mail train robbery on Thursday night. The injured man, J. H. Wayne, said a woman named Margarett Ray shot him near Hammond Indiana. Police found $1500 in bills and a blood stained cushion near the spot where Wayne was found, bolstering the case. Four more arrests, including the woman, followed at a west side residence.
A derailment in the Central yards here on Friday blocked tracks for about three hours but did not delay overall traffic. It involved two cars in train No. 58 a manifest freight from Macon to Albany that left the rails when sideswiped by a night shift engine.
Atlanta June 14 The Bureau of Agricultural Economics promotes V C Childs to Agricultural Statistician for Georgia succeeding Z R Pettet who becomes Regional Statistician for the cotton states. Childs a Jones county native and University of Georgia graduate will head the Atlanta office. The Harris bill reports system will expand nationwide following Georgia Cooperative Crop Reporting Service practices with ongoing state college and state department cooperation.

Johnson City Tennessee June 14 At least 22 people are dead in a severe cloudburst that destroyed the towns of Carters Bluff and Hunter near Johnson City Roads were washed out preventing access and relief workers rushed to the scene as bodies were recovered and officials confirmed deaths across the affected area
Paris reports Edoard Herriot, leader of the radical left bloc victorious in the parliamentary elections, accepted President Doumerge's invitation to form the new government. The development places Herriot at the helm of a reformist ministry amid post election shifts.
Americus women voters and friends gathered at the Windsor Hotel to hear Hollis Fort discuss political privileges and responsibilities. The meeting led to delaying officer elections to form a formal Americus chapter of the League of Women Voters.
In Atlanta on June 14 Charles Williams a negro hotel employee was fined 150 dollars or jailed twelve months after deceiving three Buckhead youths. Williams offered to sell three bottles of whiskey for seven dollars, but the bottles contained water colored to resemble liquor. The youths pressed charges of cheating and swindling.
Fitzgerald June 14 Judge J B Clemments of Irwinville has entered the race for the senate from the forty fifth district comprising Irwin Ben Hill and Telfair counties. The district committee adopted a primary date of September 10 for candidate submission to voters in the three counties. Clemments previously represented the district in 1919 and 1920 and retains strong support across all three counties.
Detroit June 14 Joseph Novicki 36 is dead of poison self-administered he said before he died so his wife might collect the insurance money and marry a boarder in their room Mrs Novicki 27 admitted she was in love with Tony Lausicki the boarder and intended to marry him Novicki returned home found his wife crying and learned she loved Lausicki but could not leave as he was out of work He killed himself after learning of the love affair.
Police and city officials searched the Oconee River near Milledgeville after E folds a night operator at the hydro electric plant saw a body float over the dam in the early morning. The body’s race could not be determined. Authorities reported no drowning in the area earlier and presumed the body may have been in the water for several hours.
Moultrie June 14. The tomato movement from the Pavo section will begin this week, according to local railroad officials. Several cars are expected to depart this week and an excess of 500 cars will be shipped from Pavo this season.
Atlanta June 14 Homer Welchel retiring Georgia Tech track captain and javelin champion at the southeast Olympic trials has left for Bb to enter the national final trials. Welchel hails from Ashburn Georgia.
