Chicago reports the theft of nearly two million dollars in a daring railroad robbery. Four carloads of bandits stopped a Chicago to St. Paul mail train at Roundout Illinois and seized 42 to 45 registered pouches. A robber was shot during the escape, mistaken for crew.
Chicago authorities scan highways for four carloads of masked robbers who halted a Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul express last night. They seized a fortune in registered mail but officials say the final amount is far below early estimates of one to two million dollars.
The new swimming pool opened Thursday drawing between 500 and 600 entrants and large crowds around the grounds. Bonds for 57 season tickets were exchanged, with $350 in cash season tickets sold plus about $100 from single admissions and refreshments. Treasurer Harrold and President Warren watched the launch as the pool committee plans daily oversight to keep the water clean and safe. Warren, returning from Cordele, intends to study other pools for possible enhancements.

A committee led by Dr. W. B. Oliver toured a 3500 acre tract near Americus as a potential home for annual Southwest Georgia Fields Trial meets. The site offers varied soil types and no major hunting obstacles, with good road access and hotel facilities for visitors. The exact location was kept confidential while an option is pursued.
Atlanta June 13 Representative A N Gravenstein Effingham county says he will not push a gross sales tax bill in the upcoming session. He notes Georgia's finances are sound and the tax would be unnecessary now though he expects eventual adoption. He doubts an income tax or repeal of the equalization law, and suggests possible tobacco tax collection amendments. He also states he will seek re election.
Arthur B. Eaton of Philadelphia was elected president of the National League Masonic Clubs at its 19th annual convention. Eaton, previously vice president and head of Philadelphia Civil Service Commission, won unanimously.
The Coolidge Dawes ticket campaign opened with a new Republican committee in Cleveland. The Republican National Convention ended its session amid a roar and stormy scenes, as old timers found relief in the final moments. In Madison Senator La Follette charged the current administration with neglecting farmers and blamed President Coolidge for Congress’s failure to pass needed farm relief.
In Ebensburg Pennsylvania on June 13 witnesses describe a riot at Lilly on April 5. A robed Klansman allegedly shot a firefighter after he was struck by a disrobed member who left the ranks. Several Lilly residents, including 14 year old Applaulucci, testified amid riot and unlawful assembly charges.
A script dance will be held at Rylander hall tonight from 9 until 2 a m. The hall will be cool and an excellent orchestra has been secured with lights strung throughout. Married couples in the city are specially invited to attend.
Sam West Brooks, a Black man sentenced to life for murder and recently escaped from Tift County jail, has been captured in Waycross and returned to Tifton to complete his term. The arrest ends the escape and restores the defendant to confinement.
Atlanta June 13 reports show large fruit and vegetable shipments from the Southern states. The week’s carrot movement rose one third from last year to 16,776 cars, with over 609,000 carloads reported to date. New potatoes strawberries and cantaloupes led activity as melon season runs late. Georgia Texas Florida and others project heavy crops. peach outlook strong with 62 million bushels estimated.
Cordele Georgia June 13 G T Christian longtime Cordele Dispatch and Sentinel staffer has bought half interest in the Star at Elberton. He trained there and plans to leave Cordele about July 1st.
New York June 13 three bandits bound a Bronx jeweler and salesman and ransacked the store escaping with merchandise and cash valued at 43500 dollars.

In a Nassau rules match at Americus Golf Club Americus beat Albany 14 to 4. Sheffield McDonald and McAeng led Americus with 3 points each over 18 holes. Albany players praised Americus links as both perfect and challenging. The return game is set for next Thursday in Albany.
The Dawson Kiwanis club discussed consolidating six county high schools into a central high school in Dawson. The club strongly favors the plan, with a committee appointed to push the project, and it is generally expected to gain countywide support.
