Shanghai reports call conditions in China the worst since the Boxer outbreak. The American Association of China and American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai say American lives and liberty are endangered by lack of strong action. A protest cable to Washington cites outrages against foreigners and fires on ships along the Yangtze, with gunboats deemed inadequate.
Belgrade dispatches report civil war spreading across Bulgaria. Former cabinet ministers Oboff and Duparinoff are said killed in clashes with revolutionary forces. Stamboulisky flees on horseback with a lone companion through Central Bulgarian mountains toward Pirdop, pursued by revolutionary horsemen. In New York, Edward Fuller and Frank McGee admit guilt in a sensational bucket shop case tied to Franklin Ling.
The Americus Gun club will hold a shoot Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the club grounds on Elm avenue. The range at the new club site near Anglia's tourists camp has been thoroughly prepared and much pleasure is expected for members who join in the shoot.
Washington reports formal State Department talks with other powers aim to resolve the ship liquor controversy and rum smuggling fleet issue by treaty. Officials see extending search rights to twelve miles could ease prohibition burdens on foreign ships within three miles while targeting smugglers offshore.
Home demonstration agents from Macon district gather in Vienna for a four day convention on state and county methods. Miss Lois Dowdle and Miss Rosa McGehee lead lectures on county work, with Sumter county’s Bonnie Parkman reporting on club girl progress and local home demonstration efforts. Studies cover canning preserving and pickling, including fruits and vegetables.
Cordele June 13. Chairman John S. Sheppard announced after the county commissioners monthly meeting that a special session will be held Saturday to obtain state highway regulations on the special gravel base planned as the first paving work on the National highway.
Cordele June 13 The Independent Oil company plant becomes property of the Palm Oil and Supply company of Mobile under a sale consummated today. Mr Why Hanley of Mobile is the purchaser. W T Perry of Cordele is the new manager and the plant is being reopened as the Cordele Oil company. Former owners were Edgar Fletcher J W Bivins Jr and Fletcher Sr.
Former Georgia Governor John M. Slaton says the Volstead act should be modified for foreign vessels. He asserts foreign ships should be treated as we would treat them, speaking aboard a liner bound for France from New York on June 13.
Sumter county home demonstration clubs plan a county council meeting Monday at 2 30 PM in the newly finished home economics room of the courthouse basement. Miss Bonnie Parkman announces three representatives from five rural clubs will organize the council to promote home demonstration work and increase club membership countywide. Delegates will be chosen to attend the Athens demonstration convention in July and a premium list for home demonstration work will be prepared for the fall county fair exhibit.
The Rome Ministerial association endorsed the Woodruff anti pool room bill and will seek support from Floyd County state senator and representatives. They also discussed Vacation Bible School with Rev. W W Carroll, who led a similar school last summer. The bill would ban licensed pool rooms but not pool and billiard tables in clubs or non profit homes.
Troop II Boy Scouts will hold a regular meeting Friday night at 7 o'clock in the office of Scout master R P Ewing. Important matters will be discussed and all Scouts urged to be present promptly. Last week’s meeting showed good attendance and productive discussions.
In Valbosta on June 13, J T Johnson, grandson of Jeptha Hughes of Dupoin, stepped on a large rattlesnake while guiding ecdws to a dipping vat. The snake, with twelve rattles, held a frog in its mouth and would have bitten the boy if not killed after the alarm.
Austin June 13 The Texas House adopted a resolution deploring the New York legislature action in repealing the prohibition act. The vote was 60 to 29 with an amendment to commend New York’s stand tabled 78 to 8.
War rant sworn out in Waycross charging H V Crutcher, quarter boss at Bra Barganza lumber mill, with the murder of W Tillman Rodgers of Folks ton. Crutcher allegedly fired from the dark on a Sunday morning, claiming two upward shots from the sidewalk in front of his home.
Waycross Lodge No. 305 F and A M met to launch plans for the district convention to be held July 18 and 19 in Waycross for a two day session Worshipful Master Joe D Mitchell announced. He hopes for the most successful gathering and full attendance.
State highway department officials say the division spent 6046 dollars in the past month. Ware County received 623 dollars mainly for improvements along the Dixie Highway south of Waycross.
Thomasville June 13 report on the informal council session as Mr Mees of Charlotte details a dam site ten miles west of Tallahassee on the Ochlocknee River. The plan includes a five thousand acre pond, a one mile wide dam stretch, and a plant output of about five thousand horsepower annually twelve million kilowatt hours. The company aims to contract with municipalities and plants. Tallahassee Cairo and Quincy show interest others like Attapulgus eyed for western development and Fullers Earth plants signings expected.
Moultrie June 13 The office of county treasurer for Colquitt county will be abolished if a local bill sponsored by Representatives Covington and Norman passes the upcoming general assembly session. The measure proposes to establish a depository and custodian for county funds, following a grand jury recommendation from the April term of Superior court.
The second cotton bloom of the season in Sumter was sent in to Americus today by HH West, a prominent farmer living at De Soto. The first bloom was brought in Tuesday afternoon by Clyde Webb of Sumter, as noted in another column in this issue.
In Waycross on June 18 nine bullets were needed to stop a dog owned by Ed Hitch, a city insurance representative. Police and health officer Dr J R Scully acted on Mrs E P Peabody s report that the animal was mad.
Tuesday afternoon a lightning bolt struck J. P. Wise's Plains home during a rainstorm, tearing off porch ceiling and roof, disarranging wiring, and filling the sitting room with smoke. A second bolt hit a nearby Wise barn, destroying oats and killing a mule, with total damages about 350 dollars. no one injured.
Friends in Americas report William Law, who had eye surgery in Atlanta this week, passed through the operation successfully and has left the hospital. He said he would likely leave Atlanta Tuesday and hopes to depart for Americus soon. As a child he suffered severe facial burns from a near fire that disfigured his eye, and the operation is said to restore his eye and face to normal.
Moultrie, June 13. B Maire Sr operates a truck and vegetable farm two miles east of Moultrie showing strong potential for year round vegetables. He yields about forty varieties annually, growing them in and out of season. He markets an English cabbage described as world class and a tender white rutabaga, milder than common ruta bags, edible with redot leaves.
Colquitt County farmers can load a carload of beans, says County Agent Stratford. He plans to arrange loading at an early date and notes 500 people supplying a bushel each could fill a car, with 600 crates or hampers possible.
President Li Yuan Hung fled Peking aboard a special train for Tianjin as Feng Yu Shiang's troops threatened invasion. The cabinet resigned amid financial impasse and ongoing disputes over petty official appointments, leaving the capital without a president or cabinet.

About 35 farmers gathered at T. Minc hennett’s Albany farm on Monday morning to view a demo of the Florida method for boll weevil control. All squares were picked from the cotton and home-made poisons were applied to the buds, with a check plot left to verify results.
During an electrical storm at Plains on Tuesday afternoon lightning struck the barn of J. P. Wise, killing a fine mule inside. C. W. Law of the Texas Oil Company, passing by, assisted in extinguishing the blaze with Pyrene extinguishers from his track.
