Six Germans were killed and three wounded by French soldiers in Dortmund Sunday night. An official bulletin from French headquarters says civilians threatened the patrol after 9 PM despite the ban on being abroad. Citizens reserves reportedly did not fire until after warnings.
Former Governor John M. Slaton told the Atlanta Real Estate board Georgia should oppose the push for higher real estate taxes. He warned the move would curb wealth production and kill initiative, linking it to European ideas and foreign-born influence seen in other regions. He urged maintaining Georgia’s current system amid upcoming legislative debates.

Camilla June 12. C D Johnson an eccentric Mitchell county resident died recently and left all his estate to his physician Dr F L Lewis of Camilla. The will probated last week. Johnson never married and left only distant kin after making several wills, the last about two weeks before death.
Miss Sarah Cobb and Supt J K Mathis announced honor diplomas for Furlow Grammar pupils at close of the session. Names span First through Seventh Grade with multiple sections in each grade and include students such as Aileen Murray Gus Harris Oscar Bell Ruby Horne Hazel Council Louisa Cole Theron Toler and Helen Lassiter among others.
CUTHBERT June 12 Mrs L E Gay of this city has given Mercer University ten thousand dollars in bank stock the income to be used to aid worthy Georgia men obtain education at Mercer University.
Active effort to boost home ownership in Waycross Georgia unfolds as business men lead a campaign. A visit to the railroad shops allowed workers to be interviewed and housing needs of the city to be studied.
Washington June 12 A postponement of the conference of state governors on enforcing prohibition was announced by the White House as Harding returns from his term trip. Officials cite unsettled legislation and the use of the army in enforcing prohibition as factors in the delay.
The Atlanta Baptist minister conference of the Atlanta district adopts a resolution condemning Dr. C A Ridley and declares intent to seek denial of Central Baptist Church representation in the Atlanta association. They cite his Ku Klux Klan ties and say his continued ministry injures the cause of Christ and Baptist honor.
A. S. Bussey says no rain fell in East Cordele since leaving town for Richmond Virginia. He learned of a cloud burst causing chicken casualties there and returns unaware of local showers or events.
Great Falls Mont June 12 J L McTumby one of the promoters of the Dempsey Gibbons fight and three other persons were injured when an airplane in which they were flying was wrecked near Livingston.
President C H Markham of Illinois Central and Central of Georgia leaders toured the Central division via Columbus, meeting Americas business men. Markham urged selective immigration from Northern Europe to boost North and Southern farm labor while noting the current slowdown is a pause after a rapid period. Winburn welcomed input on agricultural and labor issues from local businessmen.
Bemis June 12 Preparations are under way by the Bemis truck growers association to plant fifty acres of sweet peppers for fall shipment and one hundred acres of cucumbers. The group reports a successful season with cucumbers and expects high returns. Planting is set to begin around the 20th of this month.
J T Mack a 9-year-old Negro disappeared Saturday near his mother's home on Seley Street in the Gil Mill district. His mother Helena Taylor, employed by A C Alexander, is distressed by the disappearance. She suspects he may be working on a farm near Lericus, having wandered while seeking work.
Hattie Harden of Wrnesboro writes Gov. Rdwick claiming she is a farmer woman with seven children and no support other than herself. She requests assistance, saying she has reared the children to their present ages and faces a difficult time.
Acon June 12. T. S. Tucker, injured days ago on Héron road by an automobile, has been discharged from the clinic where he received treatment.
County agent George O Marshall urges farmers to apply poison now while cotton is small to kill more bull weevils and boost yields. He cites dry calcium arsenate or molasses mixtures as effective options and notes weather timing, with four days between applications.
President A. G. Cleveland of the Georgia Teachers Association left Monday for San Francisco to attend the National Education Association convention in Oakland as the Georgia association’s official representative.
United States Senator Walter I. George and Judge W. H. Barrett will be honor guests of the Rotary club at its meeting in Valdosta Tuesday evening. Mayor Peeples chairs the program committee. George and Mrs. George will stay through Wednesday with Col. George Simpson hosting a fishing trip.
Monday night in American Legion headquarters Massachusetts the Man Who Grows appeared as S. L. Stanley. He displayed forty seven feats of muscular prowess and challenged any athlete to equal any three. He said he has visited over three hundred colleges and campuses worldwide and spoke at Lions Club luncheon. Commander R L Crawford endorsed his work and invited another visit.
Valdosta June 12 Alonzo Smith 40 died in a local sanitarium from injuries at Beatty saw mill near Jennings Fla. He was caught in the fan belt Friday of last week his left arm torn from the socket and other internal injuries from being hurled by the belt.
About twenty five Americus Masons will journey to Montezuma this afternoon for a Travelers' Rest lodge special meeting. The degree team from Americus will exemplify the Master’s degree. They plan to leave around 5 30 and return near midnight. Travelers' Rest members will host a supper and barbecue as part of the evening’s program.
A Philippine typhoon near Samar and Albay province left thirteen dead and destroyed hundreds of houses. In Samar seven towns report 95 percent of homes blown down, with telegraph lines down and thousands homeless. Albay sees 500 houses leveled, bridges ruined, twenty miles of roads underwater, and damage to wharves and coconut plantations.
Secretary Henry P. Everett said Americans show slow response to the Chamber of Commerce malaria poll. About 500 of 2,000 posted cards have been returned, though the organization views the survey as vital to gauge community sentiment on malaria control.
