On or about July 15 the seller moves unsold stock to the Americus Jewelry Company space at 421 Jackson Street. The sale offers dry goods cloths shoes hats gents furnishings and more at low prices to clear inventory. The ad promises bargains as the easiest way to dispose of stock.
Cash only sale offers wide assortment of shirtings prints and lawns with steep yard discounts. Percales Gingham and White West P K fabrics marked down to 5 to 10 cents per yard. costly embroideries and Madras fabrics priced lower. Unsold credit purchases revert to regular prices. 110 pieces of various linens and ginghams discounted.
An old advertisement promotes a clearance sale of neckwear and shirts. Gents Furnishing Goods offers 5 ply linen collars at 150 per dozen, bulk neckwear at 25 cents, Negligees and White Shirts discounted, including Dimity Negligee Shirts in standard sizes, with prices expected to clear stock and make room for new inventory.
One lot of Crash Suits to close out regardless of value as we quit keeping the line. A complete line of Cassimere and worsted Suits and Blue Serges offered at greatly reduced prices. Shoe stock is entirely new with no old stock. New stylish goods sold 10 to 25 percent less than elsewhere. Prices on everything not listed but greatly reduced across all departments.

An advertisement extols Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription as a cure for feminine ailments excluding cancer, claiming it stops brain distress, reduces inflammation, and regulates monthly cycles. It asserts benefits during gestation and cites a lengthy testimonial about recovery after childbirth and subsequent health decline.
David P. Morris an elderly Atlanta resident was found unconscious on the Forestry building roof at Exposition Park and died at home. A vial said to contain laudanum suggested suicide or accidental overdose. He had lived in Georgia since the Civil War and left a wife and three children. Coroner details follow amid other dispatches.
Memphis on July 4th was marked by a devastating blaze causing losses between 400000 and 450000. Ex Fire Chief J E Clary was fatally injured, Assistant Chief J W Ryan seriously hurt, and a Black worker died at the American Biscuit plant amid widespread damage to the American Biscuit company Memphis Paper company Bluthenthal Heil Bronner liquor firm and the Gayoso hotel. Origin remained a mystery as the fire began in the basement of the Memphis Paper company's storehouse near Front Street and Union and McCall streets. Insurance details were not yet available but expected to cover a large share of the losses.
Razelan July 5. Commissioner of Insurance Young travels to Wilson to continue investigating the fires that began last autumn and were political in character amid election tensions. The mayor and fire chief must cooperate, report suspicious activity to insurers, and help uncover causes for possible actions.

Washington reports orders to enlist 15,000 men to bolster General Otis’s forces in the Philippines. The plan adds to 44,000 regular troops and up to 30,000 after expected losses, with 2,000 unassigned recruits sent to Manila and 4,000 drilled at the Presidio awaiting sail. Recruits for volunteers face no educational or citizenship limits, while regular enlistments maintain stricter criteria.
Reports from Masta dated July 3 describe trouble on Negros as California regiment prepares to depart for home. Hostile natives attacked as troops evacuated, driving California forces toward Manila for safety and transport back to the United States.
