The church invites all to attend Bible school at 9:30 with T. Furlow Gatewood supervising. An 11 o clock worship features the sermon The Perishable and Imperishable. Evening services at 6 and 7 led by the B Y P U and Radio Its Spiritual Lessons. Thursday prayer meeting and monthly business gathering. All are welcome.
John M. Cutler, pastor, invites all to Sunday services at 11 am and 7 pm in the court house. Sunday school meets at 9:30 am with an open invitation to non-attenders. Young Peoples and Junior Missionary societies meet at 6 pm. Mid week prayer is Wednesday at 7 pm. The public is urged to attend.

The American debt funding commission proposed a three percent rate for ten years and a half percent thereafter with full debt extinguishment in 62 years in talks on Britain’s debt to the United States. Stanley Baldwin, returning from Washington, said the US debt question rests with Congress, marking a key divergence between America and England.
Georgia banker George L Williams of Bank of Candier County Metter argues the Federal Reserve system benefits farmers and local banks. He counters Country Bankers Association claims the system aids commerce but not agriculture, noting 130 Georgia banks joined to help farmers during the 1920 21 downturn and highlighting increased agricultural lending as proof of the system’s value.
The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary met Friday at 3 pm at Mrs. Lawson Stapleton’s Church Street home. Plans to grow membership and broaden activities were discussed. Stapleton praised assistants and noted nearly 100 members, many active, contributed to Legion causes including selling homemade candies.
Tallapoosa January 27 Northern mill interests push south with sale of Tallapoosa mills, a local company capitalized at 500000 dollars, to William Whitman company of Boston. The new owners plan to employ 325 men year round.
Greenwich the country home of Dr. H. M. Torrey of Detroit burned early today five miles from Savannah. The family was trapped on the upper floor as flames spread. Dr. Torrey's 86 year old grandmother was saved with difficulty. Two others escaped by jumping to a ground mattress uninjured. Dr. Torrey was slightly scorched.
The Wells Chapter No. 42 Royal Arch Masons will meet Monday night at 7 00 for Royal Arch degree work. Refreshments will be served and all members are requested to attend.
Atlanta jan 27 F D Snelling watchman for the Nashville Chattanooga and St Louis Railroad suffered likely fatal injuries when struck by an Atlanta Birmingham and Atlantic train at a crossing early today.
Americus Kiwanis members and 13 visitors traveled to Plains for a barbecue dinner and school program. The event featured music by the Bootleggers Quartet, recitations by Plains students, and remarks by Dr J M Cutler on character building. Prizes included silver pencils to top improvers R E Shirley and Nora Gaston, plus a $25 school gift from the Kiwanis and a bar of chocolate for each pupil.
Washington January 27 definite announcement that President and Mrs. Harding expect to go to Florida after Congress adjourns was made at the White House. It notes Mrs. Harding has recently suffered illness and Mr. Harding's strain from official duties, with no specific Florida location indicated.
Macon January 27 J W Herrington found guilty in Superior Court of involuntary manslaughter after car he drove struck J M Cofer. Herrington sentenced to one year in the penitentiary.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee postponed indefinitely Senator Robinson of Arkansas’s proposal for full American representation on the reparations commission. Senator Borah signals renewal of a world economic conference as lawmakers warn of looming European turmoil. The House meanwhile considers Rep Chalmers Ohio resolution urging a world peace conference. The committee adjourned without action, with leaders saying no action is needed now.
Lausanne January 27. Two peace treaties between Turkey and Greece will be signed Monday, regardless of the general peace conference outcome. One treaty covers mutual return of prisoners of war and hostages and the other provides for compulsory exchange of minority populations.
The North Carolina House of Representatives passed on its third reading the $15 million road bill with a three cent per gallon gasoline tax, by an 85 to 9 vote. The measure retains its original form, directing funds to road construction and maintenance across the state.
Savannah January 27 Congressman Keller of Minnesota visiting Savannah for rest says he will wage a battle to impeach Attorney General Daugherty. He has no definite plan due to illness and being out of touch with events.
A car driven by Thornton Kontz collided with a grinding machine of the Georgia Railway and Power Co. Two workers, W. S. German and W. T. Hunter, died following the crash. Kontz, son of a former city recorder, faces reckless driving charges.
Ellaville Lodge No. 829 Woodmen of the World held a Friday night barbecue at 8 o clock to welcome visiting members from many Georgia lodges. A class of 43 candidates for membership awaited degrees, with a degree team from Columbus Lodge No. 888. Georgia Woodmen state officers and local members delivered brief speeches, and the gathering was praised as one of the state s best Woodmen events.
In Bronwood on January 27 the Methodist preachers meeting and missionary institute closed after a two day session. About twenty pastors from Sumter Lee Terrell Schley Randolph Quitman Clay Calhoun and Early counties planned work for the new year. Dr W C Lovett led the conference and Rev J A Smith spoke on the Macon orphanage. A new monthly paper Americas District Methodist will debut March 1 with at least 2000 initial circulation and broader reach. Dr Lovett was elected editor in chief and Rev W H Ketchum named business manager.
Fresh French contingents continue to reach the Ruhr valley and positions spread across the area and beyond the Rhine. By tomorrow evening occupation forces are expected to double, while Duesseldorf remains under martial law as German resistance is anticipated to strengthen after yesterday's Ruhr officials meeting.
Coblenz area on the Rhine, held by American troops since the Allied watch began, was turned over to the French at noon today.
Atlanta Jan 27 Governor Hardwick plans an executive order to end the use of the leather in all Georgia prison camps by Feb 10. He meets Feb 6 with the prison commission as to the constitution banning corporal punishment. Davidson objects to ruling by opinion. Patterson favors a judicial decision to fix the status rather than leave it to future governors.
Odell Allison, a young white man, was convicted by a Colquitt Superior Court jury of impersonating an officer. The jury set a penalty of 1 to 2 years in the penitentiary. He had claimed to be County Policeman Stewart, detaining a Pavo man and securing a $10 cash bond before release. Allison admitted saying he was Stewart but said he was merely kidding. This was his third offense that week, following larceny and assault charges. Sentence not yet imposed.
