Lee Street Methodist Church invites all members to attend a full Sunday program led by Luther A. Harrell. Sunday school at 9 30 a m features a special five minute junior sermon, 11 a m morning preaching on Christian Missions and the Church, Epworth Leagues at 6 p m, and a 7 p m evangelistic sermon followed by mid week prayer on Wednesday.

Bastrop January 13. William B. Stuckey a lawyer and former state senator testified in an open hearing on masked band activity. He said a theory tied to Met Rouge alleged attempt to kill Dr. B M McKoin former mayor. Stuckey said McKoin incurred enmity for his bull in china shop methods as mayor.
Will R Norsworthy testifies in Morehouse open hearing about the disappearance of Watt Daniel and Thomas Richard. He cites Captain J K Skipwith of the Ku Klux Klan who allegedly said the slain men "knew too much" and recalls a conference at Skipwith's Vaughn home. Norsworthy denies being a Klansman and describes the motive as a misreading of reports about hush money and kidnaping.
Washington January 13 funds for completing Dam No 2 and adding eight power units at Muscle Shoals are provided in the army appropriation bill reported Friday. The bill appropriates 6 908 800 dollars for next year and authorizes 10 501 200 dollars in obligations. The committee keeps the 10 million authorization strictly for dam completion and hydro electric machinery, not general construction.
Miss Bonnie Parkman Sumter county home economics agent attends fifth annual winter short courses at State College of Agriculture Athens. The program trains graduates from normal schools and junior colleges in agricultural and home economics, with lectures by college staff U S Department of Agriculture and health board. Parkman will return to teach girls and women in Sumter and rural districts.
Cordele January 13 The army recruiting station here has sent away thirty or more young men from the section to begin life in the ranks. Enlistment has lately drawn many youths. Seven were reported as having enlisted yesterday.
From Smyrna a Reuters dispatch says Turks fiercely prepare to resume hostilities if Lausanne peace conference breaks down. The report notes Valetta dated January 13 and cites Associated Press reporting.
Americus friends of Harry B. Grimshaw note his appointment as general agent of Seaboard Air Line's operating department. He has arrived in Savannah to assume his duties, marking a significant promotion for the line across the region east and west of Americus. Grimshaw has long served Seaboard, advancing from civil engineer to general manager of the Macon Dublin Savannah division.
Early observers in the Americas note a bright star near the new moon at seven and again at nine, appearing to outpace the moon in daylight. The trio sun moon and star remain unusually close in bright sun, a phenomenon not recalled before by amateur astronomers.
Augusta dispatch reports Mrs. Cora L. Metts in a hospital dying from gunshot wounds after James Metts, her husband and the girl’s father, reportedly attacked the household. Ten year old Mary Metts suffered a leg wound while trying to shield her mother and son Guy Metts, 14, was struck with a vase as the assailant fled. James Metts was arrested and held without bail in Richmond County jail.
Cordele begins a new government form with three top women on the education board. Mrs. Max Land serves as secretary, with Mrs. W. P. Fleming and Mrs. J. M. Diffee on the public library commission. Judge T. Gower heads the new board of education.

William P. Persons reports 22 059 bales ginned in Sumter county from the 1922 crop prior to January 1 this year, up from 18 088 bales to January 1922. Miss Louise Lawhorn underwent Friday appendectomy at City hospital and is reported in satisfactory condition today.
A note states bananas are seedless. It adds Japan operates about 3000 newspapers and magazines. It mentions rugby football marking its centenary this year and China publishes magazines for women edited by men.
In Macon on January 13, Guy Jones aged 10 and Robert Bruce aged 12 were killed when a bicycle they rode was struck by a car driven by W A Roush president of the Standard Handle Company. Witnesses say they tried to cross behind a streetcar and were hurled to the pavement. Jones suffered a broken neck and Bruce a fractured skull. The car did not pass over them.
James Christian alias Calvin French Rob erts was convicted in Savannah Superior Court last night of larceny after trust and sentenced to one to five years in the penitentiary. He was found to have run a fake race horse scheme on Geradys Schiperoort of New York, defrauding him of 15 dollars while in Savannah a year ago.
Augusta Jan 13 Five of eight convicts who escaped from the Richmond county chain gang yesterday afternoon were recaptured within 12 hours after holding up guards at gunpoint. Two men remain at large, both reported as white.
Secretary of Agriculture H C Wallace has been invited to speak at Farmer Week January 22 to 27 at the Georgia State College of Agriculture in Athens. Several thousand farmers from across Georgia and many speakers from the United States will attend.
Washington Jan 13 Representative Montoya of New Mexico died suddenly at his home this morning after being stricken while shaving. He collapsed and died within a short time, bringing a swift end to the congressman's career.
Berlin dispatch reports French troops at Steele near Essen tore down and destroyed a flag hoisted by occupying forces. Paris says the Reparations Commission postponed a 500 million gold mark payment due next Monday until January 31 after votes by France, Italy, and Belgium. British members abstained. Germany given time to meet payments.
Special services will be held at Lee Street Methodist church at 11 Sunday morning directed by Rev Luther A Harrell. Installation of newly elected officers will occur during the service with a musical program. Public invited to worship and witness the exercises.
Athens news reports an annual survey by Professor Westbrook of Georgia State College of Agriculture showing cotton farming remains essential in Georgia despite five years of boll weevil damage. The survey also notes peanuts as the top money crop for Georgia farmers in the past year.
Athens Jan 13 Prof Roosevelt Walker of the University of Georgia will preside at the initial session of the Georgia Association of Teachers of English in Atlanta on January 19 and 20.
