Washington reports no decision yet on joining the Allied Supreme council invitation for the United States to participate with Russia and Germany in the Genoa economic conference planned for March.
Henry Ford will travel to Washington for talks with Secretary of War Weeks and others about his Muscle Shoals power and nitrate projects. In Washington the Construction Company of North America outlined a modified plan promising operation guarantees for the plants.
In Waycross on January 10 a large Trinity church gathering launched a building fund drive for an annex. Pastor J R Webb announced a cash basis for construction and hopes to start work by early summer, urging small weekly pledges to reach the needed total.
In Moultrie on January 9 Eddie White shot Zuzu Johnson to death and Timothy Green was wounded in a return fire. Green fled and was not yet arrested. Officers say McWhite and Johnson provoked the clash by throwing bricks and bottles at Green near a negro barbershop. Johnson was shot twice but may recover. McWhite died.
Waycross Ga Jan 10 Sheriff H J Sweat and ACL Police Chief T L Lee returned from New York with Abe Harris a negro who had just completed a five year term for shooting a policeman Harris is wanted in Waycross on a charge of shooting Officer Sam Walker years ago local officers learned his term was near completion and brought him back to Waycross
Rev R S Sanders of Sweetwater Tennessee visits Thomasville to dedicate a new church at Payo he helped build earlier. The church opens with a strong membership and is a creditable well equipped building.
Washington January 10 George Wharton Pepper took the oath today as senator from Pennsylvania succeeding the late Boise Penrose.
In Moultrie on January 10 Mrs D F Martin, 30, died after consuming rouse meat deemed bad, from ptomaine poisoning. Over 20 others, including men women and children, fell violently ill after eating souse meat from the same source. A local farmer sold the meat Saturday. health officials warn against eating souse meat unless proven safe.
Thomasville dispatch says a Black man is jailed after wrecking a car belonging to a Black hackman Sunday afternoon. He was racing six miles from town when he struck a pine. The tree toppled onto the car. the driver was uninjured, thrown clear. The car was wrecked enough to be junked.
A Ford car stolen from Tallahassee Sunday was started toward Thomasville. The gas ran out at Beachton in Grady county and as the man tried to refuel officers approached. He sped into the woods but was hit by a bullet and captured. he hails from Thomasville with a wife and young children.
Rome report notes normal conditions on the bourse after liquidation, as stock brokers prepare to cover all stock of the Banca Italiana di Sconto following its recent financial difficulties.
An important meeting of the Associated Charities is set for Wednesday afternoon at 3 o clock in the Carnegie Library. All interested persons are urged to attend to discuss important issues.
Washington Jan 10 Authority granted by the Interstate Commerce Commission for the Pullman Company to acquire all assets of the Haskell Barker Company. Pullman to issue 150000 shares of new stock valued at 16,500,600 dollars. Haskell Barker had long been a leading competitor.
Four children died and seventeen injured when a Pennsylvania Railroad freight wreck struck a school bus near Van Wert Ohio three miles east of town. Driver Joseph Overhault did not see the train due to heavy fog, authorities said.
J. H. Lucas, a Seaboard railroad worker, lost his left hand when he was crushed stepping aboard a moving freight train at Vidalia. He was taken to Vidalia hospital where doctors amputated his left hand at the wrist. His condition was described as satisfactory, and Mrs. Lucas has gone to Vidalia to be with him as plans were made to bring him home within a day or two.
Valdosta January 10. D C Dalton A L Jones and O K Jones join J P Carter of Naylor to buy the stock of Ashley and Co a wholesale dry goods firm. Old stockholders D C Ashley J Y Blitch John Slater and J J Hays retain interests. New owners plan a new corporation with added capital to expand the business. It is understood A L Davis will contribute much to the enterprise.
Washington reports cotton ginned before January 1 totaled 7,084,272 running bales. Alabama and Georgia contributed 804,335 and 817,263 bales respectively, with prior totals to December 15 at 7,799,458. Final 1921-22 ginnings will be issued March 20. industry insiders doubt enough staple remains to meet the government projection of 8,340,000 bales.
Washington dispatch reports Congress plans rapid action on adjusted compensation for World War I veterans. Fordney and McCumber bills, backed by the American Legion, are before committees. no vote date set. Proposals to fund payments include a sales tax and beverage taxes, with President Harding reportedly disapproving wine taxes.
Charles E. Fox, a Richmond, Virginia ex-soldier, told a senate committee he saw Major Herman Opie shoot a uniformed American soldier north of Verdun in 1919. Sergeant Kane also claimed to witness the shooting as Fox pressed the defense attorney questions.

Cordele January 10. County Demonstration Agent RB Culpepper reports many inquiries from central and eastern states about Georgia cane syrup. The spread suggests a wide dialogue by mail to market syrup. Local farms with syrup will compile lists and begin selling.
Cordele reports that city schools begin enforcing the new 1922 physical training law requiring thirty minutes daily. Fifteen minutes of exercises and at least fifteen minutes of supervised play. Miss Florence Dow leads the Community Service effort to train staff and set schedules in all schools.
Hoboken at dawn reports five men dying after drinking poisoned liquor believed drawn from sailors aboard an incoming steamship. Investigators say the liquor caused rapid illness and death, with authorities examining the vessel and related supply.
LeGrande Worthington, a local youth raised in Richland and recently with the Eufaula water and light department, was badly crushed when a wall collapsed during a large fire in Eufaula that destroyed about 200000 dollars worth of property. He was visiting firefighters when he was injured.
James H Allen of Albany, longtime Seaboard conductor, buried in Richland after dying in Albany. Train crew ran his engine and coaches free to carry mourners. Knights Templar led services with local clergy. Survived by wife, two children, brother T W Allen and sister Mrs Wilkinson. 64.
Three white men, strangers to Valdosta, are jailed on warrants charging beating board bills and running a scheme to collect one dollar per man from negro veterans. They allegedly promised to use the funds to assist passage of soldiers' bonus legislation. Arrests began in Bainbridge with more warrants expected.
Dublin Jan 10 Arthur Griffith was elected president of the Dail Eireann to succeed Eamon De Valera who resigned after the treaty was ratified. De Valera’s walkout followed the nomination, the vote passed 60 to 59 amid protests and cheers for De Valera.
