New School Opens Its Work at Third District College
The Third District Agricultural and Mechanical College launched with a standing audience of pastors, ladies, and visitors. Rev. Bascom Anthony urged students to work hard, learn, and stay focused, and Rev. C P Gilbert echoed the call to purposeful effort. Secretary Lemley of the Y M C A urged independent thinking and hinted at future campus activities, while President Collum praised donor Crawford Wheatley for his support and recounted the college’s Georgia system origin. A few dozen spaces remain for new pupils, with class schedules planned by week’s end, and the faculty list includes J M Collum as Principal of Agriculture, J M Prance in mathematics and shop directing, R B White in English and L I ell, with Mrs R W Gresham as Matron and Keeper.

Demand for bonds is none the best now
Americas, which six months ago voted an issue of $75,000 of bonds for municipal improvements, is not alone in her determination not to float the issue during the present financial stringency when money is tight and no little of it seeking investment. Our sister city, Albany, has also withdrawn from the market temporarily an issue of $75,000 of municipal improvement bonds.
