Waterville New York reports a frost broken street main released gas today. A mother and three children were fatally asphyxiated while 13 others suffered effects. A canary in a cage gave the first warning to the victims before help arrived.
Telegrams report the death of H B Allison at a Montgomery hospital after surgery. He married Miss Margaret Dunn of Americus and Murray Dunn left Americus for the Montgomery funeral. Allison, a cotton businessman in Montgomery, was a prominent local figure and is survived by his wife and several children. relatives in Americus had not been advised of the funeral time.
Quitman Georgia February 28. City commissioners adopt a resolution to curb hydrophobia requiring every dog to be muzzled or the owner to show rabies inoculation certificate. The measure follows reports of rabid dogs and dog bites, with some animals killed or confined by police orders.
B H Cooper of Eastman Ga sustained injuries when he fell from a truck running board in Forsyth Ga and was dragged under a front wheel. He was taken to Oglethorpe Private Infirmary with a fractured pelvis. Dispatches said he was loading household goods for Lamar Jackson from Forsyth to Eastman when the truck stalled on McKinley’s Hill near Bessie Tift College. No belief of fatal injuries.
Miss Sarah Ranew, 66, died at the family residence on La Cross Road after a week of pneumonia. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. from the home with Rev. B L Jordan of Ellaville officiating. Interment followed in the family cemetery. She is survived by two sisters Mrs T A Campbell of Lacrosse and Miss Emma Ranew, and a brother Chas Ranew of Rebecca. She was a member of Anthony Chapel Methodist Church and spent her life in Sumter County, where her family was prominent.
A special license was imposed on radio outfits and supplies at the city council meeting. On Alder man Allison's motion the fee was set at 50 dollars for exclusive radio operations and 25 dollars where radio goods are sold alongside other business. Officials noted several firms are currently selling radio equipment and report good business.
Orlando, February 23. Chief of Detectives J W McMahon sails tonight for Sulphur Springs to bring back a negro held in connection with the alleged murder of Marion Johnson, 22, who disappeared from her home in October 1922 and whose skeleton was found Wednesday on the lake bank. The suspect is alleged to be the hired killer and is also under observation for a similar crime in Pennsylvania.
Macon, Feb 23. Police say final evidence against Robert Hill in the Culpepper murder and park assault comes from a New Jersey arrest of Henry Wright. Intercepted letters show Wright referring to Hill and stating that Watts was killed the year before and that Hill will be implicated in time.
Paris February 28 The chamber of deputies approved Poincare's full taxation and ceremony plan after an all night session by 354 to 218. The measures are expected to yield more than seven billion five hundred million francs.
About 75 delegates representing half of Friendship Baptist Association’s 32 churches met in Leslie for the first quarterly executive committee workers meeting. Most ministers attended despite cold weather. officers were elected and plans set for upcoming BYU and Sunday school conventions.
Macon February 23 Governor W. W. Brandon of Alabama renowned as an orator will headline a city hall gathering Wednesday at 4 pm to back Senator Oscar W. Underwood for the Presidency and organize the Underwood forces in Macon and Bibb County R C Gordon of Savannah will introduce him at the event with more speakers to be announced.
The city council adopted a resolution declaring a vacancy on the aldermanic board due to the death of Alderman J. W. Harris Jr. and ordered an election to fill the vacancy on March 5. Registration and voter qualification notices will be issued later under applicable law.
The marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Alva Brown, kept secret until last week, was revealed as Mrs. Brown formerly Miss Mary Perkins who worked at the J. E. Moore Co in Atlanta. They now reside with Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Welch.
Alderman E L Carswell and W E Mitchell of the Americas debt commission presented bonds of 1000 dollars each to the city council. The bonds include provisions to indemnify the city against irregular handling of funds. The third member, Alderman J W Harris, died recently creating a vacancy, hence only two bonds were presented.
Notice instructs subscribers to call after 6 PM if delivery fails and explains that after hours a messenger will bring the paper from the Western Union Telegraph Co.
Clearwater February 23 Deputy Horton Belcher said Frank McDowell aged 19 will be tried for capital murder of his father, mother, and two sisters. He will not be examined for insanity but undergo a preliminary hearing before County Judge Bird, then circuit court in May term. date not yet set.

W H Richardson age 65 was discovered dead in Smithville 12 miles south of here this morning. Death reportedly painless overnight. Mrs Richardson woke to find him cold in bed. He retired in good health. Survived by widow, daughter Elizabeth, two sons Harrold and Trownie, sisters Florence Batts and Leah Ansley, brothers Lukus and R J Richardson. Funeral at Smithville Sunday with Rev J W Ham officiating.
Funeral services were held in Ellaville for Mrs Lucy D Hill who died at her daughter’s home in Oglethorpe. Rev C D Carter officiated at the Ella ville Baptist church with interment in the local cemetery. A longtime Ellaville resident, she was widow of P Z Hill and survived by several children including Mrs Kate Twiner and Mrs Mattie McMahan.
