Southeast farmers show improved outlook over last year though pockets remain weak. Idle land in weevil infested areas may reach 10 to 20 percent. Labor shifts from farms to industry persist as farmers face all but competitive prices. Georgia livestock stay strong amid mild winter and hog movement brisk. Farmers delay deciding to plant cotton or peanuts awaiting price signals.
Reports from Essen and Oberhausen describe bomb attempts in Essen near the French military HQ with no injuries. Oberburgomaster Havenstein of Oberhausen was convicted by a court martial for disobeying French orders and sentenced to two years.

Cincinnati reports federal officers and private detectives recovered 738000 dollars worth of bonds from a 265000 dollar bank holdup at Walnut Hills last September and 80000 dollars in unused Federal Reserve currency taken in a Denver mint robbery.
In Rosemary and Roanoke Rapids North Carolina malaria fell from 49.8 percent to under 0.1 percent after drainage and oil barrier larvae control. Samuel F Patterson led coal mill efforts funding a $75 000 hospital with Dr T W Long and public health experts from Canal Zone helped cut typhoid as well. Eight hundred patients last year with 3.5 percent death rate. The town’s health improvements accompany a population of 7,500 and a $500,000 high school.
In Cleveland on February 20 21 and 22 the sixth annual meeting of the Council of Cities of the Methodist Episcopal church will discuss problems facing urban churches. The program includes Harrold S. Buttenheim speaking on American city life and sessions on immigrant issues labor church relations and city surveys.
A basketball double header is set for this evening at 7:30 on Aggie college indoor court. Glen Holly meets the Aggie aggregation as a preliminary to the main event between Cochran Aggies and Americus Aggies, expected to be fast and snappy. Public invitation issued.
St Paul Feb 17 At least 17 persons died in a Northwest blizzard and cold spell. Minnesota reported six deaths, South Dakota three, North Dakota three, and five in Saskatchewan, Canada, as figures were compiled.
Governor Parker in a letter to Representative L. B. Baynard states that no member of the Ku Klux Klan whose identity is known to him will be appointed to public office in Louisiana. The reply follows Baynard’s charge that the governor failed to appoint two men in Rapides parish per voter demand.
Will Johnson, among three defendants, found guilty in Fulton Superior Court of murder of Peter Poulous, restaurant owner. He is sentenced to be hanged in the county jail on March 23. Defense plans an appeal for a new trial.
Atlanta Feb 17 Federal authorities acknowledge a Georgia clash in rulings over search warrants for contraband liquor. Judge William Harrett of Savannah requires warrants for building entries and for cars without probable grounds, while Judge Sibley of the Northern district allows warrantless car stops with probable cause. The divergence shapes enforcement along Georgia’s highways and mountains as agents adapt to two contrasting standards.
John D. Mathis Post membership rose by 69 to 161, while Albany Post reached 255, up 98, qualifying for the spread. A meeting next week will set a date for hosting Albany, with plans for barbecue or banquet and 350 participants. Mrs Nannie Irene Page 28 died Friday night at 10 30 at the family home 416 Mayo street after a ten day illness. The body was sent by Seaboard Air Line to Tifton for burial at Brookfield near Tifton where funeral services will be held Sunday at 11. Interment in Brookfield cemetery. She leaves husband D J Page a daughter Agnes May Smith a son John Henry Smith of Americus her parents Mr and Mrs J A Cox two sisters Mrs J H Weekly and Mrs Edna Roberts three brothers John Cox Jesup Cox and Homer Cox all of Lenox. She had lived in Americus seven months and was a member of Lenox Baptist church.
Washington February 17 police prohibition officers launched a second city wide liquor clean up since February beginning. Armed with fifty warrants they began before noon a series of raids reaching every section of the capital and filling detention space in several station houses.
The vault of the defunct Berlin bank near Moultrie was dynamited last night. The vault held no valuables though officers believe robbers expected to claim 10 000 for depositors soon. Safety deposit boxes were ransacked.
Bronwood, Feb 17. The Georgia State Bank of Atlanta has taken over the defunct Farmers Bank of Bronwood and will open a Bronwood branch. The Farmers Bank was placed in state supervision on Feb 22, 1922, with all assets transferred and depositors to be paid by the Georgia State Bank.
Ministers Conference and church workers from five associations of South and Middle Georgia will convene in Richland Tuesday. Homes have been assigned for visitors and other guests. The four day session is expected to feature a major occasion as the Bap tists press forward with regional church activities.
On Farmers Day for Southeast Georgia farmers from Ware and nearby counties gathered at the Waycross municipal building for a series of agricultural meetings. Representatives from the State College of Agriculture and the State Bureau of Marketing explained modern farming methods. The Waycross Merchants Association displayed model barns and equipment from state plans with exhibits of cream separators milk containers and farm stock. An afternoon free movie showing followed at a local theater.
Washington February 19 debate over farm credits began amid stormy scenes. Representatives Wing o and Jones nearly clashed over time divisions for debate as others intervened to prevent a fight.
