In Essen two French soldiers were wounded last night as German security police clashed with soldiers in a cafe. The dispute began over drinks and escalated after the security police intervened. the French claim they fired first. The incident comes as tanks move into the city amid high tension. In Macon on February 16 Hillyer Rudisill the town’s postmaster for the past year killed himself in the Federal Building revolver shot his body not discovered for about thirty minutes inspectors had been reviewing the post office books at the time.
Savannah February 16 United States Judge Barrett held that fundamental rights must not depend on officers' varying characteristics in cases charging violations of prohibition laws. He stated a fleeing automobile may defy the law but badly aimed shots may be murder and that evasion of rights to stop a car by placing nail studded planks on a public road is unlawful.
Atlanta February 16 James L Beavers chief of police was suspended indefinitely by the police committee for insubordination Captain E L Jett was named temporary chief Beavers contested the action and remained in office with his lawyer while Jett pledged to follow committee orders A certiorari order sought by Beavers lawyer would move the case from the committee to the recorder s court but a bond was blocked by the committee chairman
