Joe Jackson former Chicago American outfielder won a verdict for 15 700.40 in his salary and 18 500 bonus claim but Judge Gregory set aside the verdict and dismissed the action after criticizing the jury’s handling of the evidence in Milwaukee circuit court.
The House immigration committee considered Secretary Hughes objections to the Johnson bill provisions that single out Japanese immigrants for exclusion and other restrictions. Hughes said these provisions conflict with the 1911 treaty with Japan and could undo gains from the Washington arms conference by straining U.S. Tokio relations.
J R Hicks Jr won a four year term as Bibb County sheriff after early returns showed him defeating E Julian Feacock Jr and campaign adviser Judge John P Ross. Winslett led for collector over Ross Hatcher by about two to one, while clerk race Nisbet v Roberts remained neck and neck as votes were counted. Hicks, noted foe of the Ku Klux Klan, discharged deputies tied to the group.
