Bartimont Feb L Albert Riedel a university arctic exploration student plans a north pole expedition using an ice capable submarine inspired by the Argonaut. He and inventor Lake outlined the project to Joel Hopkins University faculty and inspected the Argonaut vessel on South Street.

Alvord House in Gravunvine Burns. Five Perish

Fire destroyed the Alvord House, Fulton county's largest hotel, in Gravunvine New York. The four story brick building burned rapidly. witnesses feared many inmates perished as fire and smoke engulfed the property. Names and exact ages appear garbled in the report but several victims were noted among the occupants.

Dogs for the Klondikers reach Klondike freight crews

United States Consul Dudley in Vancouver reports a carload of 100 trained Newfoundland dogs arrived January 19 to assist in carrying freight in the Klondike. The dogs are designated for use by Klondike freight teams.

Cooper Case Returns To Trial In LaGrange Court

LaGrange Georgia February. Douglas Cooper stands trial again for the 1896 murder of Claud Dawson. He was previously convicted of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to 13 years. Others report a separate incident in Braxton West Virginia where a watchman was killed by an unknown black man after being denied passage through a tunnel.

Sister Aims to Save Man in Butler County Murder Trial

Gafford pleads not guilty to the August murder of Francis Bartow Lloyd near Greenville Alabama. He is arraigned before Judge Tyson in Butler County Circuit Court and the case opens next Monday.
