A whimsical verse extols a handsome china closet and a sofa set as gifts for Mamma and Papa. It envisions the good fairy presenting these items and the household glamour they bring, with a playful nod to wives and love returning home.
In Atlanta on December 17 Bod Brooks and Grady Reynolds were publicly hanged after confessing to the murder of merchant M. C. Haut of Belton, Georgia. They robbed Haut of $1,200 tied to a conspiracy tied to a Nevada fight, and buried his body in a creek before fleeing to the Carolinas. Reynolds implicated Haut and Brooks, who had escaped to South Carolina. public retribution followed as the mob declined to pursue further legal action.
Secretary Gage resumes defense of a comprehensive currency bill before the House Banking and Currency Committee. He explains the bill aims to stabilize the gold standard while maintaining some silver exchangeability, discusses national bank note expansion, and addresses tax and bond issues tied to treasury refinancing. He notes current silver relations, contends the plan does not preclude future silver valuation steps, and defends unsecured circulation as elastic federal support.

In Wasinton on December 17 the National Association of Freight Commissioners held its initial meeting to form a permanent body. Members are from city business groups and aim to secure equal office for shippers in dealings with transportation firms, acting as mediators rather than adversaries.
State Examiner Purifoy reports to the governor on the former sheriff W. B. Gibson of Lew county detailing delinquency to the state totaling 1,741 with interest.
