American consul Hunter Harp dies in Edinburgh
Edinburgh December 17. Hunter Harp, American consul in Scotland, died today. Born in North Carolina in 1861, he entered the consular service in 1886. Reinforced concrete is used to prevent the collapse of the Strasbourg Cathedral tower, a structure begun in the 15th century.

Mother and Babe Burned After Lured to Shack
Athens, Dec 17. Sheriff Collier said an arrest was expected today in the death of Mrs May Simmons and her young daughter whose bodies were found burned in a farm shack near Athens. Victim and child came from Jefferson in response to a message said to be from the woman’s mother. A man allegedly met them and led them to the shack.
