President Coolidge ordered the release of all remaining violators of war laws, granting pardons to about thirty prisoners convicted in Chicago, Kansas City, and Sacramento on charges including draft evasion and espionage. A prior effort had aimed for Christmas timing.
The National Equal Rights League called on all Black citizens to write to President Coolidge requesting Christmas pardons for Negro soldiers of the 24th Infantry imprisoned at Fort Leavenworth for involvement in the Houston riots of 1917.
Dan Chappell and Harry Williams were elected worshipful master of M B Council lodge 95 and Americus lodge 13 at a joint meeting. Induction will be held next Friday night with Eastern Star and Wells Chapter present. Other officers for Connell Judge and Americas lodge named, including G A G as fine warden and Robert Castleberry as tyler.
In Doorn Netherlands on December 15 ex Kaiser Wilhelm II disputes his son Wilhelm II’s plan to return to Germany. The pair’s strained relations follow the decision, with mediators trying to bridge the rift while the monarchist question lingers. Nearby California farmers warn 5000 acres of lettuce near Brawley will be eaten by those misled into thinking it is food.
The March cotton contract fell to 33.25 and May to 33.45, down about 95 points overnight, with roughly $14.50 per bale loss since government crop estimates. Decline cited loss of mill buying and hedge pressure, after recent volatility. A resumption of mill activity could restore a normal market.
Riwanian members voted 25 dollars to the Empty Stocking Fund at a Times-Recorder event. Joe M. Bryan announced Bob McMath had the biggest grin in the city. Group Two staged readings and entertainment. Group Three won the singing contest. Officers for next year will be chosen on December 28 during Ladies Night.

Mrs. Margret Weaver, indicted as an accessory in the slaying of Captain W. S. Coburn by Philip E. Fox, is under arrest in Johnson City Tennessee. The trial revealed the alleged details of Fox’s actions at Coburn’s office and the defense questioned insanity. The prosecution also warned of evidence linking Fox to Klan activities and prior floggings in Texas, with claims of drunkenness and visits to resorts with women of ill repute.
Paris dispatch says the reparations commission invited General Charles Dawes and Owen D Young to act as unofficial U S observers on expert committees studying Germany's finances. Invitations came on suggestion of Washington officials and mark official recognition of their roles.
In Atlanta on December 14 J. L. Nelson, 34, of 68 McDaniel Street was shot accidentally by his sister Mrs. C. S. Holton while trying to wrest a revolver from his hands. Nelson, despondent after separating from his wife, was found asleep in bed when the struggle began. he is expected to recover at Grady hospital.
W Wolf Aronson and W W Meyer Chicago airplane tourists detained on request of city police over alleged 5000 swindle linked to Leo Koretz. They were held overnight, denied any wrongdoing, and released to continue their Havana trip. Also Chicago trust company named receiver in Koretz case to settle about 4 million dollar swindle claims.
Athens Dec. 15 The eighth and ninth district press associations were merged into the eighth and ninth. A Caldwell editor of Walton News was named president to succeed Ernest Camp. J F Shannon was named vice president. E W Carroll elected secretary and treasurer. James P Davison assistant secretary and treasurer. Next meeting in Athens the second Friday in March. Executive committee listed. Weather kept attendance small but interest strong.
Mrs Hamilton Yancey of Rome arrived today to spend the Christmas holidays with her son Hamilton Yancey and daughter in law at their home on Lee Street.
In Greenwood Mississippi two men died and four were wounded in a manhunt after Joe Pullen a Negro tenant farmer shot planter W T Sanders and fled toward a canebrake miles north of Greenwood. Sanders died instantly. R L Methvin was killed near a ditch as Pullen sheltered there. Wounded were A L Manning C A Hammond Kenneth Blackmore and Luther Hughes.
Report from Mexico City received in El Paso says President Obregon has taken the field and leads troops of Amarillas and Guadalajara. Thousands of Vera Cruz citizens travel to join federal forces, factories stock military equipment, and laborers rally to the federal cause after the Vera Cruz labor syndicate leader’s death. Rebels under Estrada are reportedly routed at Jalisco, with 17,000 federals en route to Vera Cruz and Urbalejo heading there with 2,000 more men. Revolutionary HQ claims advances with Oriental fallen and Garza moving toward San Marcos.
Miss Martha Bell enjoyed several days of pleasant hospitality during her visit to Miss Elizabeth Sheffield and returned to her Atlanta home Friday.

Premier Poincare seeks to reassure critics claiming indifference to war obligations, while Secretary Hughes asserts no push for early payment. Plan reportedly offers long run funding with gradual amortization.
Delaware and Cherokee tribes of Oklahoma announce plans to sue the federal government for more than 24 million dollars. They cite a 20 million claim tied to Freedman era allotment of lands and 4,041,907 for interest on 1910 payments for 8,000,000 acres in the Cherokee outlet. Additional suits seek hundreds of thousands for river bed allotments they say were worthless.
Athens December 15. The seventeenth annual Farmer's Week and Market conference will be held at the State College of Agriculture January 21 to 26. County home demonstration agents will also meet then, promising large delegations of farmers and agricultural leaders. Noted authorities on marketing boll weevil control and farm problems will address the conference, under Dr. Soule. The full program will be announced soon.
Miss Lucy Lane has returned from a ten day visit to relatives in Shellman, reporting a pleasant trip and safe travels.

Through a typographical error Mildred Stanley was omitted from the first grade honor roll at Fast Ames school. The Times-Recorder reports the correction is now published and the student receives proper recognition.
