At White Sulphur Springs 15 state executives, meeting with Governor Sproul and President Harding, debated how to handle the Ku Klux Klan and prohibition. Kansas vows to expel the Klan by law, while others push for education over new statutes. The conference aims to act on the Klan and impending federal action.
By a 251 to 9 vote the House adopted a provision in the naval supply bill asking the president to negotiate with foreign powers to limit construction of war craft 10,000 tons or less. The measure keeps the full question for final House action.
Representative Keller again failed to appear before the house judiciary committee to testify under oath about impeachment charges against Attorney General Daugherty. His counsel said Keller was not required to answer as the committee exceeded its authority, while Volstead asserted the committee acted for the house and could report him for contempt. Members debated authority and whether testimony should proceed while Keller’s refusal awaited resolution.

Proceedings opened in Massachusetts challenging Henry Cabot Lodge’s Senate re election have been moved to the Senate. The protest and challenge citing election irregularities was received by Vice President Coolidge from Conrad Crocker, attorney for John A Nichols defeated prohibition candidate and Liberal Republican League of Massachusetts.

Legislation to allow farmers to borrow from farm loan banks for nine months and up to 25000 each was urged by the National Council of the Farmers Cooperative Marketing Associations. Speakers included Herbert Hoover Eugene Meyer Jr Arthur Capper and Aaron Sapiro who urged coop marketing and federal reserve reform. The meeting covered eight state cotton marketing associations with 160000 southern cotton growers and discussed sweet potato coop marketing efforts in Georgia to reduce costs and stabilize prices.
Savannah dispatch reports Joe Wittman Jr is held for murder after a deadly struggle in the southwestern city section. The victim, Fred Person, died after a confrontation that led to Wittman’s arrest following an investigation by the recorder.
Miss Carmel Hallmeyer, a Californian with a record in major California marketing associations, is named head of the Burley Tobacco Growers association legal department in Lexington Kentucky. Her appointment comes as the co operative faces large sums and complex legal needs, with tasks including arbitration and compliance for millions in potential sums.
Lausanne December 16. Drafting of the treaty of Lausanne proceeds with experts handling non disputed clauses. Subcommissions move quickly, but a complete document cannot begin before Christmas. Rumors place January 24 as the tentative signing date.
Washington Dec 16 The resident is quoted by Senator Tramimell of Florida saying he hopes to go to Florida for a vacation immediately after Congress adjourns next March. It is reported the president's plans for a vacation are still indefinite.
Poland faces a temporary government handover after the assassination of President Narutowicz at an art museum. Marshal Joseph Pilsudski is expected to assume leadership until a new president is named as General Narutowicz’s successor had not yet taken office. The shooter, believed to be a disturbed student, is being pursued by police.
The Dixie Express, a new Central of Georgia train from Chicago to Jacksonville, begins Sunday December 17 with southbound departure at 7 40 and northbound from Jacksonville at 8 20 p m. It will pass Americus and Atlanta and Macon, include express cars, baggage cars, a coach car, and a 12 section drawing room, with Americus designated as a stop.
