The Sumter county grand jury reduced jurors and bailiffs pay from three dollars to two dollars daily, effective with the next term. The presentments, returned last evening and published herewith, note the previous raise from two to three dollars about two years ago. The body reported to Judge Littlejohn that it completed its work and was dismissed with thanks, subject to call.
Sumter County Grand Jury recommends uniform school books and that registrars send birth and death reports to Vital Records. No new pension names. juror pay set at 2 dollars a day, bailiffs 2 dollars, riding bailiffs 5 dollars. Committees found county books neatly kept. courthouse and jail sanitary but jail water pipes need replacement. Roads and bridges in good condition with minor issues. Poor farm in good, satisfactory condition. Commend officers. publish proceedings in Times-Recorder and pay 5 dollars for prep. Dec 6 1921.
Washington December 7 continued improvement in business conditions in October reflected notably increased output of iron steel and textile products and widespread stimulation in building and related industries the Department of Commerce reported in a survey of current business.

Washington report states a four power agreement among United States Great Britain Japan and France would cover joint consultation on Pacific matters rather than an alliance. A tentative proposal to replace the Anglo Japanese alliance was cabled to London and Tokyo with details kept confidential.
Ma mie Sheffield, a Negro woman, drawn two to four years for assault with intent to murder after a frolic in John Minyard's bottom. George Hall received twelve months for burglary. Patrick Armstrong 2 to 5 years for assault with intent to murder and twelve months for liquor. Andrew Johnson got one year for burglary. Henry Brown acquitted. J C Graham, a new attorney, debuted defending Armstrong and Hall.
A delegation of civic groups visited Americus schools led by Supt. J E Mathis. They toured Furlow Prospects Heights and East Americas Grammar schools, observed classrooms, and praised dedicated teachers and bright rooms. The visit ended with a turkey dinner served by the junior domestic science class.
In Superior Court Judge Littlejohn excused the chief witness the girl from testifying after a proposal to settle for 1000 was revealed. Solicitor Felton said settlement would amount to compounding a felony, leaving the indictment on record while the case stands open for possible re prosecution.
In Guatemala City at midnight last night President Carlos Herrera and his government were toppled after clashes leaving three dead and several wounded. The president surrendered powers to the Provincial government and the country is reported tranquil today.
Washington reports Carlos Herrera, whose government was toppled in the revolution that began Monday at midnight, is a prisoner in his own residence while members of his cabinet are held in a military prison. About a dozen people were killed in the upheaval.
Sumter grand jury returned two more no-bills in alleged auto license tag violations absolving R A Shy and Everette Schneider, bringing total no-bills to 22 with 5 true bills. Several other indictments were returned though arrests not yet made. Additional no-bills included Jesse Jackson for concealed carry, Alvin Mann and Hugh Smith for misdemeanors.
