Quebec Town Devastated By Fire Wipes 75 Homes
ERREBONNE Quebec December 2 A devastating blaze last night destroyed more than 75 residences and store buildings including the town hall and post office. Four hundred persons were left homeless as flames swept across the lower town. Firefighters from Montreal 25 miles away aided efforts to contain the spreading fire. Mayor of Newbern calls mass meeting to discuss relief measures.

The Newbern North Carolina blaze, fanned by winds, destroyed about 200 blocks in the western section, caused $2,000,000 in property damage, left 500 workers unemployed and 1,800 people homeless, with one dead. The fire started in the Negro quarter amid a wind and diverted fire crews to the Roper Lumber sawmill fire, where $300,000 damage occurred. A mass meeting was called by the mayor to aid victims as soldiers helped settle the scene.

Washington December 2 funeral services were arranged in the house of representatives hall for James R. Mann of Illinois who died Thursday night after a quarter century of service in Congress. A funeral Monday in Chicago will be attended by his widow and an escort. Sermons were preached by the house chaplain and the Church of Epiphany rector with senate and house committees named to accompany Manns body to Chicago. President Harding expressed deep sympathy calling Mann a veteran leader, an able, fearless public servant.

Florida weevil control method increases yield
