Calumet Michigan December 1 Captain Nason Bernard and six crew members died when the Canadian steamer Maplehurst broke up near Portage Lake canal during a gale. Nine others were rescued, each escaping by leaping from the bridge into a frail lifeboat.
Washington December 1 Senate Democrats adjourned to honor the memory of the late Representative Mann of Illinois whose death occurred last night. The session paused as a mark of respect and the Dyer anti lynching bill faced no filibuster with the adjournment to tomorrow.
Washington report confirms Representative James R. Mann died of pneumonia at 11 15 PM after thirteen consecutive terms in the House. He was stricken a week ago with a chill and declined steadily, with Mrs Mann and physicians present at his passing.
Ninety baskets were distributed to the needy in Americus Thursday morning by the Associated Charities, treasurer and secretary Mrs C J Sherlock. School children contributed Thursday morning for Grammar school packing, with both white and colored students aiding. A cash donation accompanied the baskets, the largest response to date exceeding the previous high of 75 baskets. The charity thanks all children and residents for aiding the Thanksgiving relief effort.

R E Marden resigns after a few months with The Times Recorder and had served as news editor since the Kirkpatrick departure. He left Wednesday night to take another position, with a successor to be announced later.
Federal troops guarded the battered city hall after a pitched battle between police and a mob. Seventeen people were killed and 51 injured as crowds protested conditions fueling a water famine.
Miss Elsie Anthony 16, daughter of Dr Walter Anthony, on Mulberry Street Church staff, was injured when a car driven by B W Hunt crashed into the Anthony vehicle ten miles from Eatonton on the Dixie Highway. The minister and Mrs Anthony and three children aboard were uninjured. Miss Anthony suffered facial lacerations and both cars were damaged.
License numbers for 1923 will be delivered January 1, 1923, announces S. G. McLenden, secretary of state. Orders for same will be received beginning December 15, 1922, for January delivery. Application blanks for 1923 registration may be obtained after December 10 from any express office, county sheriff or licensed auto dealer.
Official statements released in Atlanta declare the 600 mile A B A line through Georgia and Alabama has recently earned more money than its operating costs. Rail leaders and local observers note the road survived strikes and adversity, and now finances improve as the line serves two states, supports agriculture and industry, and acts as a vital feeder to other railways.

South Bend Indiana December 1 1926 Mr and Mrs John P Tiernan reportedly reconciled after a Thanksgiving gathering Yet plans emerged to sell the Tiernan home on Diamond Avenue and move east with their three children including Baby Billy The couple say they will be faithful to each other and may dismiss the cross complaint for divorce once the Superior Court reopens December 4 and attends to formalities The event followed a peace concert and public statements by Tiernan about ending the past and opposing Blanche Brimmer Tiernan in court battles previously tied to a paternity suit
The Woman's Auxiliary of Calvary Church is preparing its annual Christmas missionary box for a Mississippi mission. Articles donated include sheets linens towels napery yard goods pecans canned foods. others will be sent to the parish house Friday and Saturday for packing and shipping Monday. The Juniors of Calvary will pack another box for a mission in North Carolina.

Cordele Creamery ships five thousand pounds of butter this week, the largest output in five weeks of operation. Last week yielded 4,500 pounds. Much of the cream comes from Crisp county dairy operators near Cordele, while the Arabi Dairy association continues sending cream to Ashburn. Officials aim to stock more cattle within fifteen to twenty miles to boost local production.
