Paris August 19 the French cabinet approved the work of the delegation at the London conference and thanked it for results in France's interest. Premier Herriot reported on proceedings and will read the declaration before the Chamber of Deputies and Senate Thursday.
August 19. City detectives say an eye witness will clear up the Hodges murder. Hodges died after arresting James Lockett. Lockett and Harris were in the street nearby. The witness claims Hodges had arrested Harris and Lockett and a duel occurred, Lockett was shot, Harris fired, struck Hodges’ cap, and Harris then stabbed and fled with both pistols.
Manila August 19 The death rate in the Philippine Islands for 1923 was 17.5 per thousand the lowest on record. It falls eight percent from 1922 and four percent from 1921. Officials credit better health administration sanitation and health education for the decline.
Lincoln Neb Aug 19 Gov Charles W Bryan accepted the Democratic vice presidential nomination praising the platform as broad strong and progressive enough to ensure equality before the law and empower farmers and wage earners without factional divides John W Davis and Bryan said to be in harmony with the platform and the party united against interference by individuals or interests He criticized the Republican administration for failing to enforce laws against conspiracies and private monopoly warning of risks from Bolsheviks if public action falters with focus on agriculture labor water power and law enforcement.
American world fliers remain unable to depart Iceland for Greenland for at least three days after damage to both planes during yesterday's attempted start. Lieutenant Locatelli, Italian aggressor who arrived from Pisa in a trans Atlantic flight following the Americans, will accept Commander Lowell Smith's invitation to accompany the Americans.

In Chatham Ontario on August 19 a large eagle eight feet from tip to tip grabbed 14 year old Fred Cunningham weighing 97 pounds on a local golf course. The bird lifted him five feet before dropping him as his clothing tore loose. Cunningham scared, clawed and scratched, netted the bird in a wire fence where a citizen killed it.
In Los Angeles police say Kid McCoy ex-pugilist is held on suspicion of murder in the death of Theresa Mars last Tuesday. Thirty witnesses have been subpoenaed to testify before the county grand jury in the shooting investigation while authorities determine McCoy's mental state after a cell evaluation.
A Pace for Solicitor General political club was formed at Windsor hotel last night with 75 to 100 attendees from Sumter County. Campaign manager W. Humber named president and pledged organized effort to back Steve Pace, praised as a home man and qualified to serve, with hopes of carrying Lee Schley Stewart and Webster counties by strong majorities.

Chicago police investigate a mailed letter urging the execution of Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb for the Franks murder. Found on a neighbor’s steps weighted with a woman's human leg bone and skull bones bearing metallic tags, the note signed "K. K. K." It likely was left near Loeb’s home while a guard remains at the residence.
Governor Walker vetoed a 13 000 appropriation for the Third District Agricultural and Mechanical school at Americus, unsettling principal John M. Prance and delaying debt payments and planned expansion. The House journal reportedly shows a constitutional majority present for the measure, conflicting with the governor’s action. Representatives Hines and Riley offered no comment.
Atlanta August 19. Governor vetoed appropriation bills for agricultural and mechanical schools in several districts including Eleventh Fifth Twelfth Seventh and Thirteenth. The sums vetoed were 5000 7500 10000 6500 and 13000 dollars respectively.
Atlanta August 19 supporters of Senator Robert M. La Follette plan a Georgia state ticket to compete with Democrats in November. A Thursday Atlanta meeting will discuss nominating a governor candidate and Fifth district congressman. W. F. Brandt says he once backed Democrats but will support La Follette for his stand against Ku Klux violence. Governor Clifford Walker remains Democratic nominee with no primary opposition. Congressman W. D. Upshaw seeks renomination, with one opponent Harry Stillwell Edwards. independent governor bid is being considered by La Follette followers.
