A Georgetown dispatch reports a boiler blast at the Winyah Lumber Company sawmill last night nearly wrecking the plant. Three persons were killed and seven injured. In Greexsporo North Carolina Peter Costellos a traveling Greek umbrella mender hanged himself to a tree limb west of town Saturday. A farmer found the body and the coroner reported no inquest. He carried 63 dollars and naturalization papers dated 1896 noting age 26. Costellos had recently arrived in Greensboro and was seen with two other umbrella menders.
The Socialist Unity convention met at Music Hall with delegates from socialist groups nationwide. Aimed to unite non conflicting elements for the next presidential campaign. The two main factions are De Lonists Social Labor party of New York and the Debs faction. J W Kelly of Marion Indiana was chosen for tenure and had run for mayor in Marion.
Edward Boykin, 19, woke to a burglar in his father's Camden Millpauks house. The intruder pressed a razor to Boykin's throat and dared him to stay silent. Boykin lunged, the burglar fled onto the piazza, fired a pistol but missed, and escaped into nearby bushes. In a separate note, a lightning strike near Elletterville, Ind., reportedly killed farmers Willis Aiken, George Prothers, and Joseph Prothers, while also damaging trees.
