The New Orleans Cotton Exchange issued today the annual report by Secretary Hester detailing the smallest carry-over of cotton into the new year since the South became a major producer. Fire at Old Almshouse Tenement Kills Three in Hagerstown
In Hagerstown Maryland an inferno at the Old Almshouse tenement on North Locust street killed three people and left three others seriously injured. The deceased are Jon H Carbaugh 57 Mrs John H Carbaugh 55 and Geraldine Carbaugh 19. Injured include Pearl Carbaugh Jacobs 36 Catherine Jacobs 11 and Keller Carbaugh 23. The blaze started when an oil can exploded while Geraldine Carbaugh lit a kitchen stove. Keller Carbaugh aided his mother and was badly burned. Mrs Jacobs and Catherine Jacobs jumped from a third floor window with their grandfather John K Carbaugh who died en route to the hospital.

In Montezuma Georgia 8 year old Buster Milan son of farmer Will Milan was killed when struck by passenger train No 2 of the A B and A while resting on a railroad track after fishing at Hog Crawl creek. The engineer did not see him due to a sharp curve and the train was within thirty feet of the boy. He suffered fatal skull fractures and loss of both legs above the knees.
