Flanagan Convicted in Georgia Murder Case
Edward Flanagan was found guilty of the Dec 31 murder of Mrs Nancy Allen and Miss Ruth Slack in DeKalb County near Atlanta. Judge Candler set an August 25 execution date after a jury deliberated through the night. Flanagan, a former Standard Oil employee and carpenter, plotted against the Allen family claiming a threat against him and claimed the crime was to avoid being killed. He admitted to the shooting, saying a plot was forming against him.

The First National Bank of Asheville NC did not open on Saturday morning. A notice on the door said the bank would enter voluntary liquidation due to inability to collect and the times. May 14 statement showed loans and discounts 508276.94, overdrafts 10822.23, deposits 74859.85, capital stock 100000, surplus 20000. Other city banks opened as usual and no excitement followed. General belief is the bank will eventually pay dollar for dollar in liquidation.
