New York April 15. Negotiations at J Pierpont Morgan & Co reopened to settle the Louisville and Nashville situation amid strong demand for Southern railway shares. Morgan brokers led buying, lifting Louisville and Nashville to around 129 while Southern stock advanced about 3 5 8 points for the common and 8 1 2 for the preferred. Illinois Central also rose 1 1 4.
Louisville April 15 The Post reports Governor J C W Beckham declined to state immediate steps to block the Louisville and Nashville absorption by the Southern railroad. He said action will follow Kentucky law, which forbids consolidating capital or earnings with parallel lines or acquiring competing lines or vessels entering state ports, and bars contracts sharing earnings between common carriers.
