New York April 11 idle Hour the Vanderbilt country house at Oakdale Long Island was destroyed by fire about 8 o'clock. No lives were lost though 12 to 15 servants were in the home. W K Vanderbilt Jr and his bride formerly Virginia Pair were occupants. Estimated loss 250000 to 300000. The house was a two story brick Queen Anne building built eight years ago.
An advertisement extols Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery as a sure protection against all germs and a speedy cure for germ diseases. It claims health benefits from improved digestion and strengthened tissues, and asserts the medicine cures 68 percent of bronchial, throat, and lung issues when taken early.
