Berlin April 7 Chancellor Cuno declares in an interview that France aims to dismember Germany and ruin its people. He cites Loucheur's speech as proof of intent to detach the Rhine provinces and form an artificial body, warning that dismemberment threatens Europe and world peace.
Plains April 7 The Sumter county medical society met in Dr J C Logan's office with Dr John Lunsford presiding A barbecue dinner hosted by Wise Heod Wise and J I Logan drew delegates from Stewart and Webster counties about 25 attendees Also listed are frequent social visits and travel notes of local residents and guests across Sumter Americus and nearby towns.
R B E L Spence and John Mott of Albany representing the Peanut Growers Association of South Georgia visited Americas Friday to gauge Sumter county interest in a cooperative selling branch. A meeting is being arranged for next week after which Spence and Mott will return to explain the association’s aims, with Major J A Fort helping feel out local interest and set a date.
Mothers of Muscogee County will view demonstrations in child care for a week starting April 14. The Healthmobile under Dr. Alice Moses state director of child hygiene will tour the county and complete a state-wide circuit.
Atlanta April 7 William J Burns chief investigator says he has a very definite idea of the men who funded the Gerald Chapman escape from the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary. He expects apprehension of the money men soon while a wider search for the bandit continues with additional Justice agents dispatched to Athens. Reports of Chapman seen in a hospital basement in Athens are being investigated though some officials doubt the sighting was Chapman.
Pastor Cutler resumes weekly revival at the courthouse with services at 10:00 am and 7:45 pm. Last night drew strong attendance and interest in a better life. Tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock the sermon is Is the young man safe. An all men’s service is planned for 3:30 pm. No preacher at Lee Street tomorrow night. Pastor Luther Hayrell states his congregation will join at the courthouse.
A large audience enjoyed the springtime musical comedy at Rylander Theater Friday night. The Music Study Club sponsored the show with local talent drawn from top singers dancers and actors. Miss Hazel Anderson of the John B Rogers Producing Company directed the production which delighted attendees from opening to closing curtain.
Plains Baptist church delegates attended the Sunday school convention in Cordele. The group included Mr. and Mrs. L D Wise, Mr. and Mrs J W Timmerman, Misses Ruby O Quinn Lynnett Jennings Grace Montgomery Hazel Timmerman Nellie Arnold Willie Kate Kennedy Eva Johnson Florrie bel Stewart Bessie Wellens J B Mauny Ross Dean H R Mc Gee Norman Murray Virgil Chambliss Allie O Quinn and Harrold Kendrick.
Captain H. D. Watts, commander of the United Confederate Veterans Sumter county Post, asks all veterans and attendees heading to the New Orleans Reunion to meet him Monday at 1 PM at the Seaboard Air Line Railway ticket office. The group will arrange transportation and ticket purchases, with two sleepers provided, one tourist and one standard Pullman, for comfort.
Americus High defeated Cordele 17 to 9 in a fast playground opener marked by strong batting and sharp defense. Pitcher Darby Reed struck out eleven for Americus, while Lucy Ward led Cordele with solid hitting and defensive plays, as Jackson Baldwin and Finley contributed key moments in a lively contest.
Evangelist Pierce Rowland organized a large chorus for the first Baptist revival set to start Sunday at 11 AM with Rowland in charge and Pastor Dr. Carl D. Minor assisting. Dr. William Russell Owen of Macon arrives Monday to preach, delivering the first sermon at 11 AM. Services run daily at 11 AM and 7:30 PM throughout the week with Owen speaking at each service.
Judge W. M. Harper presides this morning as Clerk Allen opens the motion docket to dispose of cases from the recent City Court session. Rehearings and related motions are among those being addressed.
Cordele hosts the Georgia Sunday school convention as LaGrange secures the 1924 session. Last night’s sessions closed one of Cordele’s best conventions, with Baptist Sunday school workers calling it the finest state gathering yet.
Pitched hard the entire nine innings and stayed cool despite taunts from Ott Johnson. Bowen starred at bat for Cordele while Dormany impressed as catcher. Americus stole seventeen bases and had thirteen hits to Cordele’s eleven. Both teams made two errors. the game was fast and exciting, with Ole A. H. S. clearly outclassing the visitors.
Sheriff Lowry retained custody of the Imperial Palace of the Klan and a committee led by Emperor Simmons Imperial Wizard Evans and J M George was appointed to run Klan affairs until a superior court hearing on the rule. A Municipal court hearing was held on embezzlement charges against T J McKinnon and Ed Furney, cashier of the Klan Imperial forces, with alleged embezzlements totaling 20000 and 80000 respectively.
The Danish steamer Nordvalen was sunk in a collision with the British steamer Barracoa in Chesapeake Channel about 14 miles from Baltimore. Both ships were freighters and no lives were lost. In Vineyard Haven, the steamer John Dwight of New York went down in Vineyard Sound with at least nine lives lost, fishermen recovering nine bodies and finding waters strewn with bottled ale barrels.
Dr. E R Coon, based in Atlanta, spent the day in Americus and nearby inspe cting commercial dairies. At Emmet & Sons near Ellaville road 44 Jersey cows were tested for tuberculosis and the herd cleared, with the premises lauded as among Georgia's best kept dairy plants. The Pines Dairy also passed its cows in a separate inspection.
