In College Station on June 7, J B Kidd of the Texas A&M College Extension Service said 300 Canadian and other long distance combines were en route to Texas to boost a record small grain crop. He expected 2,000 more from other states and Canada to add to about 1,000 Texas combines. The Texas Panhandle will need all routes to harvest starting mid June amid a tight squeeze in the Panhandle.

Grand Canyon On First Run Through Amarillo
The Grand Canyon, newest of the Santa Fe stream liners, will make its initial run through Amarillo at 9 35 this morning. It stops 10 minutes en route from Chicago to the Pacific Coast and will replace the Grand Canyon Limited once streamlined equipment is ready. The diesel engine and eight of eleven cars are lightweight stream lined. The train aims to speed service between Chicago and the West Coast for residents of the Panhandle Western Oklahoma and New Mexico.
