Speakers for Editors Listed at Texas Newspaper Convention

Three distinguished speakers are booked for the Texas Newspaper convention in Amarillo. Walter Casey of Beaumont will address delegates at a luncheon at the Amarillo Hotel Thursday. Edward Kennedy, Santa Barbara editor, will speak Friday noon about Germany's surrender and his fast story. Paul Porter, former OPA head, will close with the Friday dinner. The event is led by Frank King and expects 350 to 400 delegates from across the state. A special train and entertainment options accompany the gathering.

Casey Resigns Randall County Post

Randall County Commissioner Calvin Casey has resigned from the northern Randall precinct which includes South Amarillo. The commissioners court will appoint a replacement for the remainder of his term at a June 23 meeting. Casey cites ill health of his daughter and the family plans to move to California for treatment.

Amarillo Western Week will feature Billy Foust and his Western Oakies atop the Potter County Courthouse with a roof platform and Hollywood lights. The Faust orchestra will play at a Western ballroom dance, a municipal concert, and a street parade on July 4 led by Gov. Beauford Jester with 1000 horsemen. The House Committee on un American Activities tagged the Southern Conference for Human Welfare as a communist front. Rita Blanca rural electrification reaches construction stage

The Rita Blanca project to electrify rural Dallam Hartley Moore and Sherman counties began construction on May 16 with Siscoi Electric Co. hired to complete 120 miles in 90 days. Over 50 miles of poles are already up as 207 miles are staked and 450 more miles planned pending Rural Electrification Administration funding.
