Government abandons a fixed purchase price for 1947 wheat and opts to buy according to market demand to ensure supplies abroad. Officials cite freight car shortages and preharvest urgency as reasons to act quickly, with shipments to occupied Germany planned in July.
Storm lashed Arkansas and Oklahoma with at least 43 deaths and hundreds injured. Most victims in Arkansas near Pine Bluff. many homes destroyed, and Leedey Oklahoma heavily damaged. Tyler Texas also affected. Missouri's Willow Springs area tally seven injuries.
Bernard Faulkner, admitted slayer of his wife, is held without bond in Potter County jail. He reportedly told District Attorney Lloyd King that he stabbed his wife to death and gave details of the killing and the affair, saying they had been drinking.
In Amarillo yesterday morning Edith Norrid Honeycutt Faulkner was killed in their hotel room by multiple knife wounds. Her husband, unemployed cab driver William Faulkner, was arrested after witnesses placed him at the scene. Funeral services were set for this afternoon at Burnett-Shaw Memorial Chapel with burial planned at Llano Cemetery.
Arthur Stone 65 was found dead with a self-inflicted bullet wound at the Hobby House Cafe 1008 West Sixth Amarillo. Police say evidence supports death by his own action. coroner not yet ruling. Stone left a farewell note to his family and is survived by his wife two sons a daughter and several siblings. Funeral arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw.

John Harrison Swaney told police he went to a Negro residence in the flats to see about a dog and was robbed of about $4,000 by Clara Bell Jones a Negro woman. Swaney, a carpenter from 1525 East Tenth, said he had a thousand dollar bill a five hundred dollar bill and two thousand three hundred in hundred dollar bills. He identified Jones as the theft suspect and she was arrested at 212 Van Buren for theft over $50 in district court.
County commissioners deadlocked before approving Guy Carlander as architect to draw plans for a 100 bed expansion costing 750000.
