New York December 28 23 year old Caleb Milne heir to a fortune confessed that his kidnapping two weeks ago was a hoax to gain money and publicity for a stage career. He faces attempted extortion charges and was held on 7500 bail for a January hearing.
Harry K. Grubbs a 60 year old Tucumcari chamber of commerce president was wounded in an assault at his service station. He was hospitalized after being shot in the chest throat and right arm and is reported out of danger and improving. A suspected hijacker Jack Davis and accomplice Zack McDaniel were wanted in the case.
Los Angeles police and the district attorney reviewed the Christmas morning fire allegedly started by Ted Healy vaudeville and screen comedian. Deputy DA George Johnson decided not to issue a complaint after Healy's arrest and an eight hour jail hold. Marian Bonnell, Healy's former comedy partner, did not sign a complaint alleging a break in and bonfire at her home.
Wintry weather gripped the Panhandle Plains as temperatures stayed below freezing. Pampa and Shamrock reported about three inches of snow, with four inches locally. US lawmakers told by the Chamber of Commerce of the United States to oppose NRA flavored bills. It also rejects any cash bonus proposal and warns against heavy federal spending and any permanent neutrality moves that could edge the nation toward war.
Japanese escorted thrust drives toward Shangtu in Chahar Province as planners aim to isolate northern frontier and disrupt China Outer Mongolia trade routes. Chinese observers attribute the move to Japanese initiative with Outer Mongolia under Soviet protection.
Lamb County will vote January 4 on issuing $60,000 in bonds to supplement a $440,000 federal grant to hard surface 125 miles of roads. The $500,000 program includes seven projects, four approved by WPA authorities, and bonds would raise taxes no more than five cents per $100 valuation.
Texas high school football two-time state champions, the Sandies, are due in Amarillo at 7:15 AM after a Fort Worth & Denver special train carrying fans, the band, and pep squad arrived earlier at 3:30 AM. They yesterday defeated Greenville to seal the throne.
Amarillo's Golden Sandstorm eclipsed Greenville 13 to 7 at Owney Stadium in a fog shrouded clash. Quarterback Bert Marshall sparked the Lions with a late first half drive, but Amarillo answered with a Clesson to Taylor touchdown to seal the state crown before 16,000 fans.
In Dallas Amarillo rode a 12 to 7 victory over Greenville to repeat as Texas schoolboy champions. About 16,000 fans braved mist and chill as Amarillo sent nearly 2,000 supporters, with 365 on the travel train, to the Amarillo backers filled the stands and streets. The Sandies and Lions battled amid damp weather as fans endured delays and cold to witness the championship clinch.
