Panhandle oil field reports 1935 production value of $55.7 million with a $16.8 million payroll for 14,400 workers. Natural gasoline and carbon black led revenue, while overall field recovery reached 253.98 million barrels since start, amid widespread development across Wheeler County and Shamrock area.

CROSSON FLIES SERUM PLANE FAIRBANKS Alaska Jan 4 Pilot Joe Crosson hero of mercy flights flew an 800 mile serum run through 42 below weather to deliver life saving serum to Fairbanks as two doctors treated scarlet fever patients at capacity. He stopped 50 minutes to load serum and hoped for moonlight to aid the risky return.
Soil conservation officials plan a regional organization to tackle wind erosion in the 1935 dust bowl. The six states Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles, Southeastern Colorado, Southwestern Kansas, and Eastern New Mexico would form a separate region with H. H. Finnell, head of wind erosion control at Dalhart, Tex, likely appointed regional conservator to direct activities.
Rep. W. E. Pope of Corpus Christi proposed an investigation into political economy doctrines taught at the University of Texas. He said he was told that certain UT faculty members are teaching rank communism.
Mollie Reiswig 49 of Beaver County Oklahoma died after a truck collision with a cattle train 12 miles east of Perryton. Her husband John 52 and son Ira 16 were hospitalized with injuries including broken limbs and head cuts. Cardboard window replacements blamed for limited vision. The Reiswig home lies about 20 miles northeast.
Mrs. C. C. Owens, 20, died in a Corsicana hospital from head and face burns after she fell into a fireplace at her parents Roane Community farm yesterday shortly before noon. J. W. Allen, her brother, said the family had left the room briefly and returned to find her unconscious in the fireplace, believed to have fainted. Surviving are her parents a three year old daughter three brothers and two sisters.
Rome reports fliers killed by Ethiopians as protests to the League intensify. Ethiopia asks the League to send a commission to visit fronts and fix responsibility for alleged war atrocities, citing Italian bombing of a Red Cross camp near Daggah Bar and other strikes.
Mrs. W. R. McCarty aged 63, mother of publisher John McCarty of the Dalhart Texan, died at 8:30 am from blood poisoning after a Christmas eve thumb cut. She worsened since the injury, hospital care was begun, no amputation due to frailty. Funeral at 2:30 pm Sunday at Peeples Funeral Chapel with Rev. L D Mitchell and Rev. Felix officiating.
Attorney General Homer Cummings sent to Congress his annual crime program seeking added federal authority over firearms including pistol and revolver registration. The 1935 fiscal year saw 40 convictions under federal anti kidnapping statutes and Joseph Keenan praised 1934 crime laws as effective.
New York report details the death of Anna Cloutier, 60, found in a cold bed with a $30,000 fortune and food available. Ademee Cloutier, 60, lay nearby, comatose from cold and hunger. Police suspect prolonged weakness left them unable to heat the home or feed themselves.
State Sen. Roy Sanderford of Belton announced his candidacy for governor on a platform of cutting government expenses and implementing a three percent retail sales tax. The 41 year old, seen as Fer guson’s Senate spokesman, aims to defeat Gov. James V. Allred who will seek re election. Sanderford promised to respect constitutional rights and veto excess spending, including up to a 25 percent cut in appropriations if needed.
Los Angeles reports a shift toward death by own action as the theory in Thelma Todd’s carbon monoxide death. Grand jury information hints at efforts to stage an accidental death. eighteen jurors split with a majority backing self-inflicted death and a minority considering foul play.
Fire destroyed a Battle Creek residence early today killing Clare L. Culver 21, his wife Beulah 19, and their two month old daughter Loresta Vivian. Fire Chief Weeks said the blaze appeared to start from an overheated stove.
