The United States Weather Bureau announced clear skies and lower temperatures for tomorrow easing conditions for the last day of the Tri-State Fair. Early Friday morning readings were 56 degrees, with a high Thursday much higher but not repeated, as winds ease for football fans and players across East and West Texas.
Amarillo and vicinity: Partly cloudy tonight and Saturday, with Saturday mainly fair. West Texas: Partly cloudy tonight, cooler central and southwest areas, and Saturday fair. New Mexico: Fair tonight and Saturday, cooler in the south tonight and frost in the far northwest. Temperatures ranged 73 high and 56 low.
A nationwide give a job campaign to employ over a million idle workers in 19 states was launched at a Murray conference in St Louis. Gov William H Murray said work is available this winter and urged matching workers with jobs. Plans include $4 billion in public and private building projects and a broad road program across county, state and federal levels. The meeting will decide state campaigns for the movement.
Police in Houston Dallas Corpus Christi San Antonio Paris Victoria investigate two year wave of robberies and four murders tied to gang activity. Jack Jones, brother of slain leader Reggy Jones, details linkages prompting charges against J H Johnston Barney McGangel and Jones in Corpus Christi and Victoria. Dallas probes target alleged gangster headquarters and connect the double slaying to Dallas.
Mrs. Benjamin P. Collings spoke publicly about the Long Island Sound murder case, describing how two men boarded the Penguin on September 9 and abducted her to free her husband and daughter. She said she knowingly accompanied them hoping to lure rescuers toward her family.
John G. Farmer and A. J. Messersmith of Rock Island in Amarillo to inspect the Tri State Fair. They praised the fair and its free gate, calling it the best arrangement. H. W. Clutter guided them this morning as local agent.

The event features 500 dollars in cash prizes plus trick roping and riding acts led by Tin Horn Hank Keenan and his troupe. Meanwhile in Lubbock two men J C Merrill and Dunbard S Turner are jailed in a federal marriage insurance probe. others face charges in Dallas on a mail lottery scheme and a 1000 dollar bond for a Miss Georgia Boyd.
Chief White Eagle & Company present three 45 minute educational Indian shows for school children at 9 am Saturday at the midway tent. Admission is 15 cents. Regular fair entertainment runs Saturday from 1 pm with rodeo timings. General admission is 25 cents bleachers and 35 cents folding chairs.
Paris reports the cabinet approved Premier Pierre Laval's planned trip to Washington. He will sail on the Ile de France October 16 and will deliver official acceptance of Hoover's invitation to the U S. ambassador Walter Edge.
Fort Worth opens a league meeting on lowering gas rates with Amarillo mayor Ern est O. Thompson as vice president. Dissension is expected over whether to wait for the railroad commission probe results. The league merged from an older group of 21 cities to push lower fuel rates. Thompson says Amarillo has no gas rate problems, only concerns over telephone schedules.

J H Engman Amarillo restaurant man is hospitalized after a quarrel over fault in a collision with a truck driven by V V Dickson of Mountain Park New Mexico Engman says he was stabbed five times by Dickson during the dispute Dickson was arrested and awaits a preliminary hearing
Amarillo motorists face a $10 charge for running a red light after a city commission order requiring strict enforcement. The first $10 red light fine was levied in corporation court at city hall after a motorist arrested at Fourth Avenue and Tyler Street paid the amount. Police were instructed to tag violators and fine $5 for the first offense and $10 for the second.
Joseph H. E. Rank vice president and managing editor of the Atchison Globe died at his home after months of illness. A Globe staff member for 49 years, Rank took the top posts in 1911 after E. W. Howe retired from The Globe of Atchison Publishing Co. Howe became Amarillo Globe and News president in 1911 and remains in that role.
Geneva, Sept 25 AP The League of Nations faced a sharp setback as Japan rejected the council offer to mediate in the Manchurian dispute with China. Japanese delegate Kenkichi Yoshizawara announced Tokyo would only settle the conflict through direct talks with China, a path China is expected to resist.
Chinese mobs attacked Japanese shops in Hong Kong on September 25 drawing sustained police riot responses. Pedestrians were told to stay indoors as placards urged violence against Japanese. Two British men aiding a Japanese marine officer were seriously injured.
A Japanese battalion reports capturing Taonan in Manchuria at 10 30 AM after Chinese garrison looted and fled northward. The report notes occupation of the Chinese stronghold as Japanese forces advance in the region dated September 26.
At Buffalo Country Club Williamsville September 26 Mrs Glenna Collett Vare defending champion and Helen Hicks of Hewlett N Y will play in the final 36 hole round of the women's national amateur golf championship. Vare beat Virginia Van Wie of Chicago 2 up in the semi finals and Hicks defeated Enid Wilson the British title holder 2 and 1.
Graf Zeppelin left the Pernambuco mooring mast at 3 15 GMT on its sixth South Atlantic crossing bound for Friedrichshafen Germany. It arrived last Sunday after a 70 hour voyage and discharged 10 passengers freight and mail.
Rudy Piker a 25 year old gasoline station attendant in Dallas was seriously burned when gasoline was transferring to a car tank ignited. His clothing burned but nearby workers at a different station put out the flames, burning his feet body and arms.
Washington Sept. 25 A series of prohibition rumblings in the capital signal a new federal beer inquiry drawing fresh energy from the American Legion endorsement of a referendum. Debate ranges from praise to condemnation with calls to add a resubmission plank to the 1932 Democratic platform. Senator Bulkley forecasts a lively beer fight in the new Congress as Hyde disclosures show beer legalization could harm dairy markets. Government data suggest dairy sales rose before prohibition and might decline if brewing is legalized. The Anti Saloon League questions whether Legion support reflects broader sentiment. The Texas legislature fixed 6 PM Tuesday as adjournment time for its special session that began September 8. The Oil Producers Sales Agency of Texas led by Sam McCorkle of Mexia sponsored the bill, echoing California moves. A House bill forgave penalties and interest on delinquent taxes through October 20 1931 if paid by January 31 1932, aiming to boost tax collections with broad impact if Senate approval follows.
Western and southwestern oil state representatives urged Secretary of Commerce Lamont to press large oil importers for an embargo on refined oil products and by products and to cap crude oil imports at 140000 barrels daily for the rest of the year. They also urged limiting imports from South America and Mexico to 631000 barrels daily.
Betty Jo Dawson a seven year old girl is hospitalized at Northwest Texas Hospital with a fractured skull and severe bruises after being struck by a motorcycle on her way home from school near Line and Louisiana Streets. Sam Baden the rider transported her to the hospital. Attendants say she is progressing fairly well under the circumstances. This marks the first school traffic accident of the year and the second recent pedestrian injury.
Akron Ohio September 25 The U S S Akron the Navy aerial battleship completed a three hour and 51 minute second trial flight carrying 109 aboard. It cruised in 20 mile circles over its deck as a phonograph played to the crew and ground crew until docking at 10 46 P M with no incidents reported.
