John A. Hill, 39, a San Antonio oil man and vice president of Auto Signal Service, is jailed in Dallas on a Corpus Christi murder warrant for slaying 20-year-old Alfred Steinbach of Cincinnati. Hill admits knowing Steinbach but denies involvement. Steinbach’s body was found near Corpus Christi after July, with roommate W. Don Carlis later charged as well.

Denver Road Band from Childress broadcasts to KGRS listeners during a busy day devoted to exhibits and performances.
Detroit September 24 The American Legion convention votes 1008 to 304 to urge Congress to repeal or modify national prohibition and submit the issue to state voters. Debate features pro and anti prohibition factions and calls for Legion leadership in a referendum drive.
Partly cloudy tonight and Friday with probable showers. West Texas sees similar conditions in the north and extreme west. New Mexico reports mostly fair weather with afternoon and tonight showers and thunderstorms in the north central area, frost in the extreme northwest, and cooler temperatures Friday. Temperatures ranged 64 to 83 degrees at 1 PM.
Senator William E. Borah warned at the University of Idaho about an escalating arms race leading to deeper economic misery. He urged revising European postwar treaties he said poison Europe and spur endless armament. The speech opened the William E. Borah foundation for the outlawry of war, funded by Samuel O. Levinson.
The Indian Show at the Tri-State Fair grounds switches spots and lowers general admission to 25 and 30 cents. Fair president Wilbur C. Hawk says merchants’ tickets drop accordingly and are still being distributed by many merchants. With the price cut, hundreds more tickets are expected sold over the final three days.
Tomorrow is New Mexico Day and Oklahoma Day at the Tri-State Exposition with eight bands performing. Amarillo schools close at noon as Albuquerque Portales Clovis Tucumcari Carlsbad Roswell Shamrock Claude Texas and the 142nd Infantry band of Amarillo join festivities. Concerts and parades will fill the forenoon as delegations proceed to the exposition grounds.

Santa Fe reports heavier rain northeast of Amarillo and in Pampa White Deer Panhandle Borger, plus showers at Spearman and light rain at Texline.
Judge James C. Wilson late this morning in federal court sentenced Thurman T. Hickey to 18 months in the Chillicothe reformatory Ohio on a counterfeiting charge. Hickey a farmer near Roscoe Texas was arrested August 22 here after attempting to pass a split ten dollar bill. A jury found him guilty after trial finished yesterday afternoon.
Aviation editor Lou Reichers of Liberty Magazine abandoned his record attempt from New York to Havana due to a broken tail skid. Hugo V. D'Annunzio, son of the famous Italian poet, accompanied Reichers on the flight from New York.
The heavyweight fight between Jack Sharkey and Primo Carnera, originally set for October 1, has been moved to October 12 after Sharkey cited a hand injury. The announcement came from New York on September 24.
The Interstate Commerce Commission authorized Southwestern railroads to charge 10 cents per 100 pounds for petroleum shipments from Allen and Tula in Oklahoma to refineries at Chanute Kansas.
Mrs Glenna Collett Vare of Philadelphia defeated Mrs Leo Federman of New York City 6 and 4 in a quarterfinal at the Buffalo Country Club Williamsville New York on September 24. Vare led six up at the turn and finished strong to reach the semi finals in the national championship.
The fair features a large implement show at the pavilion with delegations from Plainview Clarendon and Cana dian plus radio programs sponsored by Memphis Dumas and Grover. Leonard Stroud Rodeo starts at 2 30 P M and the Indian show runs 1 5 P M and 7 until midnight with midways open day and night.
Secretary of Agriculture Arthur M. Hyde said he will launch a personal inquiry into the economic impact on farming of proposed beer production. He will study how resuming hops and barley manufacture could employ farmers and affect agriculture if the prohibition law is modified.
