State House Passes Bill to Keep Tax Rate at 69 Cents
The Texas House approved a Senate bill directing the automatic tax board to maintain ad valorem state tax at 69 cents per $100 valuation. Amendments likely require a free conference committee. A 60 cent rate proposal was defeated. Revenue anticipated from cigaret, cement, and sulphur taxes could allow a lower rate even with salary cuts.
