J L Cheshire 28 charged with shooting W R Dickey operator at a filling station on March 24. With five days to go the Amarillo Tri-State fair prepares for a grand opening. More than 500 entries are anticipated as Boy Scout displays come together and advance carnival acts move in. Builders finish permanent booths and a large penny arcade dominates the grounds. Officials enforce a 12 o’clock opening with all construction halted at the moment the fair begins. Work continues in the Merchants building as exhibitors race to finish before the noon start.
The Amarillo Tri-State exposition office will open at Fairpark Wednesday morning. The records and office equipment move from 310 Polk Street will occur Tuesday night, with one person remaining downtown to handle inquiries. Officials urge early applications for reserved parking and concession spaces.
Bandits robbed the Bank of Nardin eight miles west of Blackwell Oklahoma around 10 am. A gun battle occurred as officers surprised the robbers but casualties were not learned. Nardin and Blackwell officers joined in the pursuit to arrest the culprits.
The September term of federal court in Amarillo opens with Judge James C. Wilson presiding. Grand jury investigations and equity matters will occupy much of the week, with a heavy criminal docket expected next week. Civil docket targets October 1 and law docket October 9. twelve Panhandle applicants will seek naturalization papers.

Oak Grove Mo Sept 17 Robert White, who lives east of here, still resides in the same house where he was born fifty one years ago. He married and brought his bride to the home, where they and their daughter and family still live.
One man died and another seriously burned in an oil field explosion in Pampa Texas. Lester D Bell 22 formerly of Augusta Kansas was engulfed in flames and died. Charlie Gott a driller was badly burned trying to rescue him as the fire from a tossed cigar spread to a nearby well destroying the derrick.
Los Angeles police renewed a search near Riverside for graves on the George Cyrus Northcott property as the elder Northcott described a grisly chain of acts by his son Gordon Stuart Northcott. Authorities said the investigation targets alleged murders by the youth and possible accomplice charges against his mother.
