Tri State Fair Opens As Festival Of Fun And Fellowship

7000 Automobile Workers Idle on Account of Strike

The Plymouth plant of Chrysler Corporation, with 7,000 workers, shut down 1939 model production due to a strike at Briggs Body Plant. Briggs supplies bodies to Chrysler and officials warned further plants could close if Briggs does not reopen. The Briggs sit-down strike raised total unemployment to 16,000 as of yesterday.

Substantial Cotton Subsidy Checks Arrive in Clarendon

In Clarendon County on September 15, UPI reports 158 government cotton subsidy checks totaling 125000 dollars were received. The first batch is expected to reach 200000 dollars, based on three cents per pound for 60 percent of base acreage, according to County Agent H M Breedlove.
