Fiesta Patriotica marks Mexican Independence in Amarillo
Spanish American residents plan a two day Fiesta Patriotica at Our Lady of Guadalupe School basement celebrating Mexico's independence. Events Sunday include games dancing and crowning Sophia Gallegos as queen. Monday features a commemorative ceremony and dance as part of state wide observances urged by Gov. Coke Stevenson in his proclamation.

The Amarillo public school system announces a record staff of 385 teachers plus 30 administrative and clerical workers to operate 18 elementary schools three junior highs and the senior high.
