Meat Diet Faces 10 Pound Per Capita Drop in 1948
CHICAGO September 3 U P R J Eggert associate director of the American Meat Institution told delegates at the 42nd annual meeting that curtailed corn and grain crops will push meat supplies down and raise prices. He forecast per person consumption dropping to 148 pounds in 1948 from 158 in 1947, noting the decline follows higher cattle prices at Chicago stockyards and would affect only higher grade cuts while lower grades stay steady.
