In Nanking on October 22 Chinese forces from both sides fought fiercely to gain territory before a cease fire. Nationalists led by Gen Sun Lien-chung counter-attacked along the Peiping Bankow Railway and took three towns while Communist units advanced toward Yulin, about 110 miles north of Yenan, in northern Shensi Province.
