American Army officials in Stuttgart say about 10 German arms caches were seized in weekend searches across southern Germany. The seizures are not linked to the Stuttgart bombings. A top officer warned of potential unrest against the denazification program amid the probe.
In Huntsville on October 21 a 32-year-old doctor, Dr John Carr Garrett, was killed while trying to restrain his estranged neighbor Albert Rucker who shot his wife then killed himself. Rucker, 25, fired at the doctor and then turned the rifle on himself at Kissell Stationery Co. 611 Taylor St.
Washington reports about 1,400 AFL pilots at Trans World Airlines walked out demanding higher pay. Grounded all planes on U S and transatlantic routes, with over 90 flights canceled, roughly 3,000 passengers stranded and mail diverted to other carriers. TWA operates over 28 270 miles of routes, headquarters said the action effective for 24 hours.
Amarillo officials said no planes were grounded and no passengers stranded as the TWA walkout began at 5:59 CST. The last DC-3 left at 7:00 a m with two passengers en route to Albuquerque. Flights were redirected to regional terminals. Braniff and Pioneer were not affected beyond passenger transfers. Union demands would raise pilots pay, with early figures showing a 12 to 25 percent range above current rates, and government seizure discussed if the strike broadens. TWA operates domestic routes plus Shannon, Paris and other European cities.
A 60 foot whale wandered near shore during a Huntington harbor cruise and stranded on the sandy bottom twenty feet from land. Hundreds watched as it splashed in the ebb tide while Coast Guard crews prepared a rescue, the service noting the whale as their responsibility.
Operators of Veterans Free Cab Company plan to add cars as a city test case on taxicab ordinance delays trial. The firm reports heavy business and says tips average over 35 cents per ride, with no city permit yet, while a new ordinance considering meters colors and fares may pass before the case is heard.

Roberts for a tip about a stove ad ending with a water heater explosion. Third prize two dollars to Mrs. A. B. Towery for news about seven yolks in eleven eggs. Other entrants listed with addresses.

Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek departed Nanking by plane for Formosa with Madame Chiang less than two hours after Communist leader Chou En-lai arrived from Shanghai to resume peace talks. An official note said they would be gone for a few days as negotiators in Shanghai had reported progress toward a preliminary accord and a month delay before resuming discussions.
Pittsburgh reported power supplies rising as independent unionists of Duquesne Light Co end a 27 day strike under an arbitration agreement. Workers voted 1197 to 797 at a mass meeting conducted by deputy sheriffs. double shifts were ordered and workers returned to duty.
An American spokesman said the British refused Franz von Papen a permit to enter the British occupation zone. Von Papen, held in Nuernberg jail, had associates executed last week after the international military tribunal acquitted him of war crimes.
Amarillo prepares a welcome for Julius A. Krug secretary of the interior arriving at 3 30 pm at English Field. A Crystal Ballroom Herring Hotel banquet for about 200 guests follows at 8 pm with leaders Mayor Joe Jenkins and Rep Eugene Worley.
In Fort Worth, a seven day old infant flew 500 miles with his mother and sister due to a housing shortage. Delta Airlines said the boy was the carrier's youngest passenger. The family traveled to New Orleans to stay with the grandmother while the father, a civil engineer, hopes for housing prospects.
Burglars broke into the Post Office Drug Store at 612 Taylor last night stealing about 40 dollars worth of morphine tablets. This marks the second narcotics burglary in Amarillo in recent weeks following a break in at Brooks Drug Store No 2 on West Sixteenth.
Brisbane reports the mayor of Coolunratta warned Lana Turner not to appear on his beaches in a French bathing suit during her proposed visit. Queensland bans such flimsy costumes and the act drew town attention.
Lt Gen Lucius D Clay formally protested to the Russians after an AMG official, Harry D Flory Jr 29 of Pawnee City Nebraska, was shot while fleeing Russian MPs in the Berlin zone. Flory and two AMG employees, Miss Perry Johnson of Sumter South Carolina and Miss Carolyn Wyson of Cleveland, were ordered to follow a Russian vehicle to Soviet HQ when shots were fired.
Investigators from the Amarillo Civil Aeronautics Administration inspected the BT 13 trainer wreckage after a late afternoon crash at Canyon Air Port. Victims Wilford C. Russell 24 and William N. Nite 31 were Dalhart residents. Funeral plans for Russell were announced and Nites family searches continued. Russell formerly served as an Army fighter pilot. Nite was a Navy veteran and Wanser Drug Co co owner.
Sen Tom Connally of Texas, returning from the Paris Peace Conference, deplores talk of another war and says Russia did not get all it sought but the conference was largely successful. Molotov arrives at New York aboard the Queen Elizabeth and pledges Soviet cooperation to strengthen world peace. Connally is accompanied by Mrs Connally.
Mr and Mrs O H Schlegal of 711 Jackson suffered minor head injuries in an automobile collision last night. They rode with Leslie Denny of Panhandle when their car collided with a parked vehicle owned by Junior J Palmer of Fillmore. The injured were treated at a physician clinic. Over the weekend there were ten other accidents with six reckless tickets issued including leaving the scene and lack of driver licenses.
Abandoned giant trucks were found in a circle drive at the sheriff s office. Four International 6 wheel drive trucks from the Curtis Real Transport Company of Cleveland were located, with five trucks total reported dispatched two weeks ago to the West Coast. A company telegram asked the sheriff to store them and send new drivers to Amarillo. Five men arrived with the trucks but one truck and the men disappeared after a couple of days. Investigators found missing spare tires wheels batteries tools and other accessories from the vehicles.
