Special air mail cadet markings will adorn outgoing mail for the first flights from English Field Saturday marking the service opening. Postmaster Kenyon says the Chamber of Commerce will help attach them and the early mail should bear the air mail stamp plus "ct, A, M. No, $4."
A severe October cold wave spread across Canada and the northern United States bringing snow and subfreezing temperatures to many areas. The cold spell deepens 1930’s claim as a year of extreme weather after a summer heat wave.
A Canton dispatch reports a massive blaze in Wuchow near the Kwangsi Kwangtung border killing about 650 people. The fire began on a floating restaurant on the West River and spread to many boats and nearby shore structures, with many victims leaping into the water.
Mrs. Keith Miller British flier arrived in Winslow Arizona for minor repairs after a landing mishap on the first leg of her west to east trans continental record attempt. Her light biplane damaged a wheel and tail skid during landing from Los Angeles the previous day. Mechanics said tail skid repair would take less than a day and a night, but a new wheel must be flown in from Los Angeles before she can resume. She planned to leave by Wednesday morning.
SAN ANTONIO Oct 20 Com plaints charging three persons with the murder of Daniel H Uhr 50 Jalytic were filed in justice court. Mrs Clara Uhr 49 widow of Uhr Lexie Jones and D D Walker Fort Sam Houston soldiers were named. Within hours after the killing all three were arrested and had made statements to police. Uhr was killed with an axe while he slept at his home Saturday morning. Jones admitted the actual killing after police questioning.

Arthur Johnson surrendered at the police station after fatally shooting Joe Ford at Knights Hotel 209 Jackson Street at 12 40 pm. Johnson turned in a .45 Colt, Ford died at St Anthony's Hospital shortly after, Johnson says the shooting arose from a debt dispute and he is jailed. Ford was said to have been shot several times.
The regular weekly session of Amarillo's city commission may be delayed with attendance uncertain. Only H Ernest Smith is expected to be in Amarillo Tuesday while Mayor Ernest C Thompson and city engineer E N Stanley met the Texas highway commission in Austin on plans for the North Fillmore street subway and will not return before Tuesday night. Commissioner J N Vernon is at the state fair in Dallas and plans to come back Wednesday.
New York. Oct 20. Jack Legs Diamond a racketeer plans to leave Metropolitan hospital where moved Saturday to convalesce from bullet wounds at his Acra New York country estate or a private institution. Police prepared to arrest him as a material witness in his shooting. The wounded gangster continues to improve.

Driven to shelter by damp penetrating cold nearly 80 men Sunday night applied to Amarillo police headquarters for a place to sleep almost twice as many as ever before. The record 42 was surpassed. 79 sleepers registered Monday morning. Sleepers came from many states. some are chronic wanderers, others broke and homeless. Most are willing to work. safer to sleep in city jail than seek elsewhere. Only lodging is furnished.
New York reports Eddie Cantor, once a stage star and multimillionaire, plans a quick return to the theater as a playwright. A comedy credited to his authorship is set for production soon.
Three men slugged B. W. Moore cashier for the Union Terminals and C. H. Murphy a special guard on a Dallas street near Austin and Commerce. They used improvised black jacks loaded with shot to strike them, escaping with about sixteen to seventeen thousand dollars in cash. Moore was seriously injured and taken to a hospital. Murphy was stunned. The robbers fled in an automobile.
Dr. W P Haseman an oil development and research engineer testified in the corporation commission proration hearing that production curtailment damages wells by encouraging salt water encroachment. Hearing ongoing since October 10 with a temporary extension expiring today and another extension expected. H H Champlin Enid with production pipelines refinery and stations was to testify after Haseman.
Eve VeVerka arrived in Amarillo for a three day Charm School at the Municipal Auditorium. She requests to be called Eve, not Madame VeVerka, and will give lectures on health, charm and beauty at 2:15 PM Tuesday and again Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and evenings.
The Neosho river farm home blaze near Parsons left four dead including Marvin Kennedy six Edna Tyler eleven and Harold Tyler four as well as Barnard Dean Kennedy five weeks old hurt Ed Kennedy and Charles sixteen were in critical condition from severe burns while Edward Kennedy nine and Mary Ellen Kennedy four escaped unharmed.
Danville Virginia. The mill district was patrolled by over 100 special officers to curb further violence tied to the 4000 worker strike. Authorities report minor outbreaks after several strikers were arrested for slitting automobile tires and throwing stones at mill properties.
Pearl O Loughlin faced renewed questioning as detectives pursued the murder of her stepdaughter Leona ten. She repeated denials of knowledge about ground glass and the deathly acts that left the child unconscious and in Berkeley Park Lake. Oil of ground glass was reported in her husband Leo O Loughlin, a city detective, also. Kitchenware was sent to chemists for analysis. In Portugal an explosion at a village fair killed several and injured others.
The local weather bureau reports no relief from overcast skies in the Panhandle. The unsettled conditions continue tonight and Tuesday with little temperature change expected. At 1 PM the temperature stood at 48 degrees and no significant rain was recorded in any section.
The unseasonable cold wave stretches from the Rockies to the east with Chicago hitting a record October 20 low of 27 degrees. Blizzards in Central Canada have eased but snow and frigid temperatures linger, with flurries expected around the Great Lakes and in New England and New York. Weather Page 2.
Services for Eugene E Blasdel 62 former Amarillo mayor will be at Central Presbyterian Church Tuesday at 2 pm with Dr R Thorn in charge. Burial in Llano Cemetery. Body lies in state at Griggs Funeral Home until 9 pm Tuesday and 10 am to 1 pm at 1602 Madison Street residence. Pallbearers named.

Amarillo police issued another alert after J. W. Lemond of Lubbock sought two men who solicit deposits for suits and overcoats but deliver nothing. Chief McDowell urged youths to beware of magazine schemes demanding cash deposits as proof of honesty. Earlier, police halted a racket involving radios and appliances left in homes by faux agents.
